Thomas Edward Rudd1849-1921, m. Jennie E. Stewart. Both families lived in Cassville, N.J. Thomas's father was also a Thomas Edward but believed both went by Edward. His mother was Alice Reynolds. They evidently moved down from NYC as both Thomas and his brother James was born in NYC. Jennie's parents were Samuel Stewart and Annie Clayton , no dates, but ca. 1825-26. Death cert. stated Samuel father was born in Ireland and his mother born in NY. Don't think they were in Cassville as long as the Rudds--if you can go by the census. Any help would be gratefully accepted. Thanks Bev
Hi, Folks I'm looking for information about the Osbornes, a Quaker family who lived near present-day Tuckerton, NJ, as early as the year 1700. (The progenitor, Richard Osborne [d.1740] married Jane Bates on Long Island in 1698/99.) They lived at a place then called Osborne Island but now, I've been informed, is known as Mystic Island after a development on the site. Specifically, I'm wondering if there are any surviving sites related to the Osbornes -- houses, meetinghouses, burial grounds, etc. I'm planning a visit to the area and am wondering what I might be able to find. Leah Blackman's History of Little Egg Harbor includes a story that, prior to the 1778 "massacre" of American troops under Gen. Pulaski by the British, the British came to one of the Osbornes houses in the night and made Richard Osborne Jr. lead them to where the Americans were camped. There is now a monument on the site. Looking forward to hearing some great stories! Mark E. Dixon Wayne, PA
Is anyone familiar with the history of Cattus Island. I have heard that it used to be called Page's Island. And have noted on a map that there is also a Page's Point and am curious about how it came to have that name. I do know that this land is now part of the Cooper Environmental Center. I have found them on the internet and they list a lecture schedule and one of lectures is the history of Cattus Island. Has anyone heard this lecture or know if a copy of it could be obtained. I have discovered that my 6ggf JOSEPH PAGE who was of UpperFreehold Twp., Monmouth County NJ purchased on Dec 5 1789 - 300 acres of land in Dover Twp, that was located on Mosquito Creek and Mosquito Cove near Barnegat Bay which is part of Cattus Island. He purchased this from David Rhea Esq. He also purchased an additional 10 acres of land of Jacob Applegate at Mosquito Cove from Amos Pharo on Apr 13, 1795. He sold both of these lands to his son TIMOTHY PAGE in 1797/1800. thanks Mathew Page mapage@prodigy.net

Hi, I'm brand new to the list. Does anyone have any information on the WOODMANCY family? I am specifically interested in information about the parents and ancestry of John Woodmancy born in 1804 in Ocean (or Monmouth) Co, apparently the son of a Reuben Woodmancy. Reuben died and John's mother apparently married Reuben's brother. John married Harriet PLATT in 1832 and the family eventually moved to Shelby Co, OH. Tradition is that John was a captain or owner of some kind of boat or ship at Tom's River. Any help is appreciated. Gary Treat
Hello! I was excited to see the new Ocean County list in the Rootsweb newsletter. Count me in. I am actively researching in Ocean/Burlington counties ANDREWS, RILEY, PETTIT, RIDER. I also have connections to, and varying amounts of information on PENROD, SHOURDS, STRATTON, CRANMER, JONES, SOPER, GAUNTT, HORNER, GALE, ROSE, EDWARDS, MULLINER, TROTH, GASKILL, GIFFORD, BORTON, HEADY, HOLDEN, RIDGEWAY, LORD, PHARO. Since 1850 the family has been largely on Long Beach Island (and Tuckerton, and Tucker's Island). My ggg grandfather Eber Rider was the lighthouse keeper on Tucker's Island, and I'm looking forward to hearing about the progress on the planned Tuckerton Seaport. Can anyone local give an update? My grandfather John Winall Penrod grew up in Beach Haven, where his grandfather George Penrod had a grocery store. I will submit a tree at some point shortly. May I suggest that those joining the list also send in a "roll call", listing names they're working on - there might be lots of connections to be made. I assume these will need to be repeated as the list is brand new, but we'd might as well start! I live in Fort Wayne, IN, where the genealogy dept has a national reputation. Sometimes I don't get in more than once a month, but I'd be glad to trade the occasional specific request for something similar at the Ocean County Historical Society, or other local resources. Thank you, Susan Penrod
Hello Ocean, I've just signed on after seeing the birth of this list. I've lived in Ocean County since 1966 and its about time Ocean had its own rootsweb-list. Although Ocean County was born in 1850 (it was formerly part of Monmouth County), the history of the area goes back before the Revoluntionary War. If I can help anyone needing info on the history of the area just let know. Btw - how many Ocean Rooters are there currently. Sean Flannery Beachwood, NJ USA sflannery@cdicorp.com
