    3. As one heads south over the Route 88 bridge from Point Pleasant (I'm not sure if it's Point Plesant Beach or what) off to the right there is a little cemetery below. It is on Estelle Avenue which is off Front Street. - Does anyone know the name of the cemetery? - Has anyone documented who is buried there or does anyone know who has the records? The place is just chocked full of Morris' and Johnson's as well as other familiar names. Thanks in advance

    1. Shore occupations
    2. Barbara Barnett
    3. The 1870 census for Ocean County lists some Spragues with the occupation "oysterman" and "lobster fisherman". Those kinds of shellfish in these waters was a surprise to me - all I've ever seen down the Shore is clams. Does anyone know what happened to these Shore industries? Were they over-harvested by our pre-ecologically conscious ancestors? Thanks for whatever information you can give. Barbara

    3. Will you please post this to the group? I am trying to get my RIDGWAYs straightened out - a task which I find quite confusing. This is the info I have, but am not sure about - need proof: Deliverance WILLETS, d/o Richard WILLETS and Elizabeth RIDGWAY, m. Stephen BURDSALL I need proof that Deliverance was the d/o Richard WILLETS and Elizabeth RIDGWAY I have the parents of Elizabeth, w/o Richard WILLETS, as Richard RIDGWAY, b, 1618 in England; d. Jan 1723 in Burlington Co., NJ; m. Elizabeth CHAMBERLAIN. I need proof of Elizabeth's parentage, and the b., d., and m. dates for her parents. 2. Subj: Request to Corinne Lil for Ridgway Info Date: 99-09-28 15:18:59 EDT From: Nellmail To: NJOcean-L@Rootsweb.com I communicated with Vickie Ridgway-Randolph and she suggested that I contact you for some Ridgway information. I am looking for the parents of James R. Ridg(e)way who was born in 1829 and who married Elizabeth Oldridge in Vermillion Co. IN in 1850. Vickie had information on a family, James B. Ridgway b. 1800 in LaPort IN and married Naomi Willets and had the children: John, James, Nathan, Marion and Mary Naomi. James B.'s father was Jeremiah Ridgway b. 1770 in NJ amd married Judith Bartlett. Jeremiah and his family is reported to have moved to LaPorte, IN in 1837/8. The Indiana records that I have found and the book "Ridgways U.S.A." show this family but they do not mention the son James. I was hoping to find out if you might have some information on this James. I am hoping that he might be the James R. in my family. "Ridgways U.S.A." has the children of James B. Ridgway being born as follows, but like I said no mention of James: John b. 1824, Nathan b. 1827, Marion b. 1843 and Mary Naomi b. 1843. Since my James R. was born in 1829, this could possibly be his family. Can you help? Thanks Jenell Rector Cremeans Nellmail@aol.com

    3. I too have heard it said that South Jerseyans had much sympathy with the South during the War, although I can't back that up with any published histories. New Jersey did not cast its electoral votes for Lincoln's re-election but rather for George McClellan, who was later Governor of New Jersey. As for which NJ outfit an Ocean County man would join, that would probably be up for grabs - I believe men simply joined regiments which needed filling. Anyone know any more?

    3. Hello Ocean County Listers, Does anyone know which units of the Union Army men from southern Ocean County or eastern Burlington County might have joined? Does anyone know anything about those parts of NJ during the Civil War? I have heard stories that some people in the area felt more aligned with the Confederacy than the Union. Has anyone else ever heard this? Thanks, Maureen

    1. Adams of Tuckerton, 1859
    2. Maureen Foster
    3. The 1939 obituary of my great grandmother Mary Elizabeth Adams Perry Leek states that she was born in Tuckerton (1859) and was the daughter of Caleb and Sarah (Headley) Adams. Other children of Caleb and Sarah were: Alfred A. (1854), Sarah E. (1855), Hope A. (1857), then Mary (1859), and lastly, George P. (1867). Hope died in 1914; she was married to Richard Luker. In her old age, Sarah (Headley) Adams married Andrew J. Steelman and they lived in Asbury Park, N.J. Is anyone on this list researching any of these Adams, Headleys, Lukers, Leeks or Steelmans? Maureen Foster
