Hello Listers, My grandfather built a house in Surf City in 1935. Does anyone know where I go to obtain records of the lot purchase and deed? It's funny, I spent all my summers there, but now that I want to document what I know, I realize I know very little about how the Island works. Thanks in advance for any advice. John W. Youmans (1849-1928) was first married to Charity Holman? Thanks, Suzanne ROJO@wesnet.com
Does anyone have a Jonathan Ridgeway Taylor in their line? I'm asking because I have found 3 separate individuals with the name. None are father and son. My 2nd gr grandmothers brother was Jonathan Ridgeway Taylor b. 1844 m. Mary G. Collins 1 Nov 1866.Chesterfield twp.Burlington..He was the son of Benjamin Taylor and Eliza (Reed) Taylor who were buried in Jacobstown Methodist churchyard. Then there is Jonathan Ridgeway Taylor who married Sarah Shutts 15 July 1841, in Monmouth, and yet another Jonathan Ridgeway Taylor, not a son of either of the other two born 14 Sept. 1867 Manchester Twp. Ocean Co. So I have 3 JRT's in 3 different counties. Hoping someone on the list has one of them in their Taylor line and can help me sort this out.
Posted on: Ocean Co. NJ Queries Forum Board URL: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NJ/Ocean?read=411 Surname: ------------------------- am a descendent of Emeline (nee Hall) Evernham & Isaac Evernham. Isaac Everingham was born on June 9, 1789, or May 17, 1788 in East Windsor NJ (it was only called Windsor NJ at that time) and married Emeline Hall (who was born November 9, 1794) on August 25, 1815. Emeline was the daughter of Jacob & Hannah Hall. Jacob was a veteran of the Revolutionary War having served in the 2nd NJ Regiment. Isaac is assumed to have died sometime before his widow, Emeline Evernham married Jesse Platt. The wedding of Emeline Evernham & Jesse Platt was recorded in an old Evernham Bible as being October 10, 1829. There is another date givenn for their wedding which is October 9, 1842. I do not know which date is correct. Isaac & Emeline Evernham had 5 children before Isaac died (which is assumed to be in early 1829 or late 1828 if the 1829 weddding date is correct). Their names being Elizabeth, Lydia, George, Benjamin & Andrew Jackson Evernham. Jesse Platt was born Dec. 23, 1778 and died Feb. 4, 1867 (both he and Emeline were buried at Good Luck Cemetary in Lanoka Harbor NJ). What may be of interest to you is that Emeline had a sister named Elizabeth Hall (1800-1869) who married Joseph Grant (1797-1884). Jesse Platt and Emeline Evernham had at least children; Amanda Platt born July 18, 1830 (married William Grant), ? Platt born Sept. 4th 1832 and Elizabeth Platt born July 27th, 1835. There was a Jesse Platt Jr. but it does not appear that he was the son of Jesse & Emeline. Probably from Jesse Sr first marriage. John Grant is listed as having been born June 27, 1799, and died Nov. 7, 1867 aged 67 years, 4 months and 10 days. He is buried in Bayville Cemetary NJ. He married on Jan. 6, 1827 to Deborah Lewis, born 1805- died July 20, 1895 also buried in Bayville NJ, probably the daughter of Jonathan & Deborah Lewis of Dover Township NJ both of whom were also buried in Bayville NJ. There is a Mrs. Elizabeth A. Grant 115 Laurel Ave. Toms River NJ 08753 who is (was?) an expert on the Grant/Evernham & Platt families and I am sure could fill you in on the connections. Hope this is enough to get you started!

My gggf Hiriam G. McCormick died 1892 in the Long Branch, NJ area and his remains were transfered by Gillon Funeral Home of that area. His remains was sent to his son Rev. William H. McCormick Locust Cemetery Plot, Dover, NJ three years after his death in 1895. Do you have any census in Ocean Co. that could give me some info on where he lived in the area before his death. If I could find out if he had any brothers and sisters in area it sure would help me. You can write me direct ... justinep@doitnow.com Thanks Justine McCormick Peterson

Hi Everyone... Does anyone have access to a 1935 Atlantic City, New Jersey directory or perhaps census documents for that era? I'm searching for a great aunt and her husband... the name is Dr. Isaac Shenfeld and his wife was Reva (nee Goldenberg). I know my great aunt Reva had at least one son, and possibly quite a few more children but I've been unable to locate any of them... Any information would be gratefully accepted. Hi all, I was sent this by a fellow researcher and thought it might be something you all might recognize in your own searches.... I know I have. If it's off topic I apologize... (12) Thou must also flip thy parent's names when making reference to them, although "Unknown" or a blank line is an acceptable alternative. And my own personal addition: Thou shalt name at least 5 generations of males, and dozens of their cousins with identical names in order to totally confuse researchers. ============================== The RootsWeb WorldConnect Project: Tens of millions of individuals... and counting. http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/
I want to thank everyone for their responses, both to the list and privately. The vote to "open" the gateway was nearly unanimous, and I have made the required entry on the "listowner" side of the gate. The next step was to have the GenConnect administrator open the gate from that side, but what I discovered is that poor Ocean was an orphan, adoptable, so I've taken that on, as well (hoping its not a huge amount of work). I believe that it is now set up to receive the messages automatically. We will watch, and if there are problems, discuss if we want to keep it that way. If anyone has questions, I'll be happy to go in search of answers. Barbara

Barbara I think that is a good idea. List administrators have a choice to accept the service or not. It would eliminate frequent checking of the GenConnect boards to see new stuff that's been posted, but I really don't know how much more mail it would generate. It would, I think, broaden opportunities to connect with people who may not be current list members. This is your list - do you want that connection made? Barbara
