    3. One of my families (MCCONNELL) lived in the area where southeastern Sussex County and western Morris County adjoin. I recently had the chance to take a very brief look at a probate/division of land record at the Morris County Surrogates Office. I did not have the chance to read the whole thing, but I did make copies of two pages. I knew from looking at a related deed, that Johnson Chamberlain had petitioned the court for a division of lands to obtain a share or parcel for his wife Caroline. A court ordered that the lands be divided in 1867. The document says that the death of Charles McConnell had been followed by the death of his wife Mary, who had not distributed her husband's lands among his children in her lifetime. The following individuals received shares in the proposed division of land as heirs at law of Charles McConnell: one sixth share to Caroline wife of Johnson Chamberlain They married in July 1850 in Morris County. She was born abt 1830, he abt 1823. one sixth share to Ann wife of George W King They married May 4 1835 or 1833 in Morris County. one sixth share to Harriet wife of Aaron Atno They married 12/10/1839 in Sussex County. Other shares seem to be divided between the children of William McConnell and Mary Ann Whitehead, Charles McConnell Jr and wife Arvin?, and Elijah McConnell, who was married first to Agnes and then to Frances Almira Tilliston. My research has led me to wonder whether the couple had other children who were not named in the proposed division of this particular piece of property. I posted a more detailed message about this family on the McConnell board on July 3rd, and I plan to post more information about McConnell families in the area later. One of these families is the family of a Charles McConnell in Byram, which appears at this point to be a different family. I would like to exchange information about these families. Dates of marriages and deaths, burial locations, and the maiden name of Mary McConnell would be especially helpful. Kirsten Saxe
