    3. I have had this question posed to me so I decided to reply to the lists to help others find surname lists. To find a surname list go to: http://www.rootsweb.com/ Then look for the section that is called: Mailing Lists then click on Surname List Finder and type in any surname you desire If you would like to browse the lists or look for variant spellings of your surname: click on Index (Browse all lists) Look for the Surname section then click on a surname letter and look for other variant spellings. For example: If one was looking for Nichols The following lists are created Nickel Nickels Nickell Nickles Nichol Nichols Nicholl Nicholls If this were a surname I was interested in; I would sign up for all of these lists and also search the archives for these lists too. For the Archives; look under Mailing lists again: Click on Interactive Lists Type in the name of a valid list (one listed in the above steps) or click on Threaded Archives and type in the name of a valid list. This shows the messages by month and year and tells you how many messages there were in that month and year. Let me know if I can be of any other help in finding things. Also, in your search don't forget the message boards. There are message boards on Ancestry.com (accessible from either the http://www.Rootsweb.com homepage or on http://www.Ancestry.com homepage there are also surname boards at genealogy.com http://genforum.genealogy.com/ Diane Ward Sives
