While working at the NJ State Archives today, I came across a single birth record mixed in with the Morris Co. marriages. This film was from the Morris County Clerks Files, not the state records. I brought home a couple of photocopies and will happily send one to anyone who wishes to claim it. It reads: I, Daniel Carey, the Subcriber, hereby certify that on the Eighteenth day of April Eighteen hundred and twenty Eight there was born to my Servant woman Bet, a Slave for life under the law prior to Eighteen hundred and four, a certain female child to which the name of Rose was given being now twenty-one years three months and twenty Eight days old.
