I have been researching Morris County genealogy for some years trying to find the ancestry of my branch of the Hinds family. Some came from Essex County MA by way of Long Island, some came directly from Essex County, MA, others came from places unknown. We have decided that the only way to sort them out is by checking DNA and have started a project to do just that. If any of you have Hinds blood, please join with us. The person who furnishes the DNA sample must be a male named Hinds, Hines or other variant but he is not necessarily the one who pays the fee! I and others are paying for our representative. Today six kits were mailed out to our first participants. Although those six males are spelled Hinds - it doesn't mean their ancestors spelled their names that way. Our first six are from the U.S. but we hope to expand to include Hinds etc. lines from Canada, Australia, England, Ireland, etc. AND, since we feel that people with other spellings MAY be descendants from a common ancestor we would like to be able to change the name of this project to the Hinds/Haines/Hines,Haynes,Hynes,etc. project. The different lines will be differentiated by colors. Then if it proves to be true that the Haines have nothing to do with the Hinds - the groups can then split apart to different results pages with their own administrators. In a surname project the participants need to be male with the Hinds/Haines, etc name. If a female on your list wants to participate, she can ask a brother or a male cousin to participate on her behalf. She can even offer to underwrite his costs. The cost for a 12 marker test is $99. and for the 25 marker test is $169.00. The test consists of a cheek swab. The 12 marker test will decide whether a common ancestor exists but he may be hundreds of years ago. The 25 marker test can break the line into tributaries. This same test will also tell of Native American heritage (if it is not too far back in time.) You may first want to visit the main page at: familytreedna.com to get a feel of how it works. For privacy reasons, the participants can opt to have their results published under a number instead of their name. What think you? You are most welcome.
