The program is presented by Dave Phraner and Pete Hassler, Directors of the N.J. Transportation Heritage Center The opening of railroads produced a great change in Montville Township as it led to Montvilles industrial age. The Capstick Mill was located next to Montvilles Railroad Station and was profitable due to its location. Because the mill required workers, more settlers came to the area expanding the population. When the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad began to pass through the township, it put the Morris Canal out of business as goods were cheaper and quicker to transport. Another railroad, the Rockaway River and Montville Railroad, was used to transport stone from the Taylortown Quarry on Hog/Turkey Mountain to the Jersey City Reservoir. The stone was used to build the reservoir. Come see the history of trains in Montville Township. The program is presented at Montville Townships Historical Societys September 8 program, 7:30 p.m. in the Pio Costa Auditorium, Montville Township Library, 90 Horseneck. All are invited to come. Refreshments will be served. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! SiteBuilder - Free, easy-to-use web site design software http://sitebuilder.yahoo.com
