Posted on: Morris County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NJ/Morris/12050 Surname: Brandt, Brant, Crane, Burnet, Burnett, Minton, Prince, Phippen, Hennion, Baldwin, DeMott, Ward ------------------------- Cheryl posted: >I descend from Susannah Brandt, wife of Moses Crane, whose gravestone >at Vail Cemetery, old Presbyterian Churchyard, Parsippany, NJ, says >she departed this life August 17, 1776, in the 46 year of her life. My source was, "Genealogy of the Crane Family", Vol. 2, by Ellery B. Crane; 1900; pg. 317 and I think it said the Aug, 14, but looks like that is an error. >The gravestone of Moses Crane is in bad shape but JoAnn Crane-Coriston's >book "Crane Chronicles" shows him b. 23 April 1730 d. 12 Feb 1795. Their >son Daniel Prince Crane m. Phebe Burnet. Our family history states that >Rachel Crane was their daughter and she married Moses Mount Ward. Their >daughter Julia Ann Ward born at Wardsburg, an old part of Parsippany now >under the Jersey City Reservoir, married my ancestor William Norcross >Hennion. You must known Diane Ward Sives then? >I believe William and Julia (Ward) Hennion were third cousins as his >mother was Phebe Baldwin, daughter of Ezekiel Baldwin and Martha (prob. >Hayward). Phebe married John D. Hennion as his 2nd wife (first wife >Catylyntie DeMott). Ezekiel Baldwin was the son of Zachariah Baldwin III >and his wife Rebecca Crane d/o Azariah Crane Jr. This Rebecca Crane was >supposedly the sister of Moses Crane. That exactly corresponds with the data I have. >I photographed a gravestone at Vail Cemetery for a John Crane died 15 Oct >1863 aged 80 years. The "Crane Chronicles" shows that Daniel Prince Crane >and Phebe Burnet had a son named John. Near this John is a stone for a >Ralph Crane. Clarissa DeMott, widow of John and Phebe (Baldwin) Hennion's >son Abraham Hennion, married 2nd to a Ralph Crane. Clarissa and Abraham >Hennion are buried in Montville and I wonder if this Ralph Crane buried at >Vail was her 2nd husband. I have several hundred Crane's listed, and one Ralph listed, also a child of Daniel Prince Crane and Phebe Burnet. Phebe had a brother, Ralph Burnet, my ancestor. Ralph Burnet married Rachel Crane, sister of Daniel Prince Crane. John could be Decon John Crane, husband of Mary (Polly) Minton. He is also a son of Daniel Prince Crane. >There is interesting documentation at the Terhune Library at Crane House >in Montclair concerning the Prince family and it seems there are different >opinions as to whether the maiden name of Azariah Jr's wife was Prince or >Lampson. Most of the data I've seen now shows Azariah Jr's wife as Rebecca PRINCE, daughter of Job Prince & Rebecca Phippen. How she met Azariah Jr. (born in NJ) is anyone's guess. But her mother is shown in Milford, New Haven County, Connecticut; there's a chance the Crane's visited their "old stomping grounds". Now if you know anything about Susannah Brandt, I'd be most happy! Thanks for posting. Link: The Desendants of Edward Ball of New Jersey URL: <http://www.altlaw.com/edball>

    3. I'd be interested in learning more about Ezekial Baldwin's wife Martha (Hayward). I descend thru their daughter Mary, who married Joseph Willis. For a discussion on how Rebecca is most likely Crane, see "Rebecca, the Wife of Azaria Crane II" by William Pryor in "Genealogies of NJ Families". This is also available on FTM CD # 182. The basic argument is the Prince names that appear among their children. Sorry I cannot remember the listmember kind enough to send this to me. I found a DOB fo Rebecca at the FTM Genealogy Library. This is in "Report of the Commissioners of Boston Ma. 1630-1699" (William Whitmore Vol. 9 1883)on page 197. She was born 21 Nov. 1691 in Boston, Suffolk, Mass. to Job Prince and Rebecca Phippen. In "Narratives of Newark", there is mention of a sloop that went regulary between Newark and Connecticut. Take care, Kevin
