Hi My New Jersey Atlas & Gazetteer by DeLorme has a Pleasant Plains which is in the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge. And just to the south of this is a Stirling which is near the borders of Morris, Somerset and Union counties. You will find this on page 31. Can anyone on this list tell me if there was a community named Pleasant Plains in Morris Co around 1860? The gentleman I believe to be my g-grandfather is listed in Morris Co NJ Births, Vol. Z-2, 1848-1867 as being born in Pleasant Plains in 1863. I found two siblings in this book in earlier years where the place of birth and residence of the parents was listed as Morris Township. In the 1863 record, the place of birth and residence of the parents are both listed as Pleasant Plains. The only Pleasant Plains I can find today in NJ is quite a bit south of Morris Co, and looks like it is near the border of Ocean and Monmouth Counties. My grandfather's brother's birth certificate lists his father's place of birth as Sterling, NJ. I assume that is an incorrect spelling of the Stirling NJ I see in the current Atlas. Any chance this Pleasant Plains of Morris county could have been near Stirling? Thanks for any information. George
