    1. [NJMORRIS] BONDs of Morris Co., NJ
    2. All, Searching for BOND family in colonial and early post- revolutionary period in NJ BOND items of data in my collection are -- Mendham, Marris Co., NJ Richard BOND was contemporanious with Lawrence MIZNER (c1771-1795) and Sarah COOK who had sons, Lansing Bond MIZNER, b. 1794, and Henry Caldwell MIZNER, b. 1795 Richard BOND married Mary STEVENSON, She married second Caldwell CAIRNS. Richard and Mary had a daughter, Mary Stevenson BOND who married, c1822, Henry Caldwell MIZNER (above).. Mary Stevenson and Henry C. had a son, Lansing Bond MIZNER, b. 1825.. The use of the BOND name within the MIZNER family in subsequent generations indicates a great attachment for the name BOND. I know that a BOND was a founding father of Elizabethtown, NJ in colonial times. I suspect that Richard BOND (above) was of this family. Does anyone have the genealogy of the early BONDs of NJ? Best regards, Hugh

    3. Samuel Congar, reprinted in Wm H. Shaw, History of Essex and Hudson Counties, NJ, Vol I, page 359 gives just a bit of information. Stephen Bond was the eldest son of Robert, who was a magistrate at East Hampton, L.I., 1658; of Gov. Carteret's Council at Elizabethtown, 1668; elected re. from Newark, 1672, where he married Hugh Robert's widow; was magistrate in Elizabethtown, 1675, and died 1677. He married Bethia Lawrence. Will 1694 names children Joseph and Hannah, and a brother Benjamin. Joseph of Elizabetown, 1675, was probably brother." That's all Congar says. There is a lot of material on the web that includes East Hampton, and all early NY will abstracts are with genealogy.com, but it is on a conscription basis. The tip of Long Island fits in with Elizabethtown patterns since a great many of its families -- Ogden, Price, Bonnell etc -- all came from that area. The Newark settlers were from Connecticut, although some of them had cousins on Long Island.
