I haven't used this method, but a "cousin" told me about this trick. White foam shaving cream and a squeege is supposed to help with difficult to read tombstones inscriptions and photos. The shaving cream would fill in the inscription and show up better than chalk. I don't see that shaving cream would be destructive, but please post here if this is incorrect.
