Judy Ullman 404 Red River Tr 1017 Irving, TX 75063 Dear Wilson I think we finally have the source of Joseph Edwards being the father of a Sarah Courter and I hope it is your Sarah Courter. This is from Abstracts of Essex County, New Jersy, Partitions and Division of Estates, 1793-1881, Recorded at Newark, New Jersey. Abstracted by Virginian Alleman Brown, 20 Meadowbreeze Lane, Washington, NJ 07882, 1981 Book 4, p 431, Map p 435 "Joseph Edwards, of Springfield Tp. Children: Joseph, Moses, Mary Wright, nee Edwards, Vannelly, Mayry wife of Reuben Miller, Nancy, wife of Obadiah Wade, and the children of Sarah Courter, nee Edwards, who died before Joseph (her father) viz Peggy, also deceased, leaving two children under 21, and Peter, also deceased, leaving two children under 21. On Road from the house of Thomas Parsell to Sprinfield, corner of George Drew near Smith Denman, also woodlot adjoining Jacob Wood. Commissioners: Samuel Parkhurst adn Enoch Edwards, and A. Reynolds, map maker. Survey by Samuel Squier. Recorded 24 Jun 1831." And on another Courter question that has been annoying. I looked at the marriage records from Acquackanock Reformed Church yesterday and it states that the Jan who married Nellie Stagg was living in Acquackanock in 1730. According to Greener Jan Courter married second a Peterneeltje "Nellie" Stagg 1730. They had two children recorded in Pompton Plains 10 years later. Jacobus, son of Jan Courte and Lena, witnesses were Jacobus Stegh and Sara bp 1739. Greener states that a mistake was made listing the name Lena instead of Peernelletje as the mother. I question whether Jan the son of Jan is the father of Jacobus or Abraham bp 1841. This is Jan's land records living in Morris County starting in 1719 1719 Joseph Kirkbride of Bucks County, Pa and John Job of Middletown, Monmouth County, NJ sold 1250 acres of land to John Koarta. The lands were west of Pompton Plains eastward to the Bog Valley. This land adjoined the 1,000 acre tract on which present day Boonton lies. "Alex Fowler's book on Morris County houses, describes the tract as running from present day Montville toward present-day Lake Valhalla and east from there toward Changebridge Rd." This land was purchased by Kirkbride and Job from the West Jersey Proprietors in 1715. 1722 John Koarta sold 288 acres to Jacob Demounth in the Rockaway Valley. 1726/7 He was appointed overseer of the Highways in Hanover. Hanover covered a large area that was known as Hunterdon County. This area included Pequanock.
