    3. Kathleen: I've inserted my responses to your posting below: > I have Bicknell's Crane Genealogy where Edwards female children > are listed as : Eunice, Affie, Pheoby, Abigail, and Benonie. Yes, Ellery Bicknell Crane's "Crane Genealogy" shows the five daughters of Edmond (not Edward) in the fourth generation of the section titled "Jasper Crane." > In his 1761 will, Edward mentions (females only listed here) > Daughter Affia Persons, Rhoda Person. > Granddaughter Abigail Squire (of Jonathan Squire). Edmund Crane did die in 1761. Rhoda is Phoeby according to the "Crane Chronicles," of which I have photocopied selected pages. Crayon's book, "Rockaway Records of Morris County Families" lists her as Phoeby. This Phoeby Crane, b. 1743, married Isaac Pierson, and later, Jonathan Thompson. The "Crane Chronicles" also refer to Presbyterian Church of Morristown records of 'Rhode' Crane and Isaac Pierson. I don't know who the grand daughter, Abigail Squire, is. Even the eldest son (Stephen Crane) was not old enough to have had a married daughter at the time of Edmond Crane's death. This is a puzzle. > When Rick initially proposed this Abigail as his missing wife, I > looked at > Edward's family and his will and thought the dau. Abigail > probably married a > Squire, which let her out of the running. I really don't have enough > information at hand to decide either way. But, you said above that Abigail Squire was a grand daughter. Edmond's daughter Abigail, if she were alive, would have been but nine years old at the time of her father's death. I don't think we can draw any conclusions. Mrs. Crane-Coriston appears to have done a thorough job of researching this family and, as I stated in my earlier message to this list, she says that no known records have been found that indicate Abigail Crane (b. 1752) survived childhood. > I do have some questions though, and I'm hoping someone (Ed, I > really mean > you!) can help straighten me out. Can anyone tell me what happened to the > daughters? Who's Rhoda? Who married Jonathan Squire? According to data I've seen, Rhoda/Phoeby married a Pierson and a Thompson, as stated above. I don't know where Jonathan Squire comes into the picture. Next time I'm in Morristown or another well stocked library I'll check indexes of various sources. Affia and Phoeby are the only daughters for whom information beyond birth is known to be available. Eunice and Abigail are presumed to have died at infancy or an early age because they were not mentioned in their father's will. Benonie was born the year of her father's death and there is no known information that indicates she survived childhood. >Which Abraham Pierson did Affia marry, and which Pierson did Rhoda marry (I don't see > them in the index of the Pierson Millennium)? There were so many Abrahams among so many Piersons, it's a wonder we can sort them out. Having a need to double-check some of my Pierson information, I'm reluctant to put much detail in this message. Affia (aka Affie) Crane (1740-1808) married Abraham Pierson (1735-1792) 24 January 1759. This Abraham (b. 1735) was son of Abraham (b. 1707), son of Abraham (b. 1676), son of Thomas (b. ca. 1642). After a couple of more Abrahams we should find Henry Pierson. There are also enough Thomases to make things difficult. Affia Crane and Abraham Pierson had eight children, one of whom, Zillah Pierson, married Luke Carter of Bottle Hill. This is where my interests are. > Finally, would you tell me a little more about the "Crane > Chronicles"? What is this and what does it cover? The "Crane Chronicles" is a privately published book on genealogy of the Crane family. Published in 2000, a copy was purchased by the Morristown Joint Free Public Library. I would like to own a copy but could find no reference on how to contact the author, Jo Ann Crane-Coriston, or the publisher. I have asked one of the librarians to see if she could find a purchase order or an invoice, a possible source for this information. Mrs. C rane-Coriston descends from Edmond Crane and Abigail Kitchel. Ed Burnet
