    1. [NJMORRIS] Hinchman-Noble papers
    2. I have received a copy of a bill of sale for two slaves, dated 3/5/1818. The full text (capitalization and punctuation are preserved) is as follows: Know all men by these presents that I John C. Dunham of the Township of Kingwood County of Hunterdon and State of New Jersey for the sum of one hundred Dollars in hand paid or received to be paid; have and do bargain and sell unto Guy M. Hinchman his Executors Administrators and Assigns a Female Slave named Renor Supposed to be about Twenty-nine years of Age also a Male Slave named George; which will be two years of age on the fourteenth day of this present month bound under the Late Law of the State aforesaid. To have and to hold to him the said Guy M. Hinchman his Heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns the above Female Slave named Renor a Slave for Life.  And I do Warrant and will defend <torn> Guy M. Hinchman in the peaceable possession of the above Slaves against me and all other persons whatsoever. Witness my hand and seal this fifth day of March in the year Eighteen Hundred and Eighteen. John C. Dunham Signed Sealed and dit: In presence of John H. Hinchman Lewis M. DeCamp <end of text> Presumably Lewis M. DeCamp is the Lewis Martin DeCamp who married Mary Hinchman, possibly Guy's sister. Guy Hinchman married Susan Grandon DeCamp, Lewis' first cousin. At the time that the document was executed, the Guy Hinchman family appears to have been living in Dover, Morris Co., and the Lewis M. DeCamp family in Newton, Sussex Co. This document is part of some Noble family papers (Guy's daughter, Sophronia, married Charles Edwin Noble) which were given to a relative of Betty Wendell of Las Vegas, NV.  She says that she would be happy to give the letters and papers to anyone that has a legitimate connection to the family.  If you are, or know of, a direct descendant in this line, please let me know, and I will put you in touch with Ms. Wendell. I have scanned the document, but cannot post it to the list, since our list won't handle attachments.  Please contact me directly if you would like a copy of the file. Wilson DeCamp Vienna, VA
