While working at the NJ State Archives today, I came across a single birth record mixed in with the Morris Co. marriages. This film was from the Morris County Clerks Files, not the state records. I brought home a couple of photocopies and will happily send one to anyone who wishes to claim it. It reads: I, Daniel Carey, the Subcriber, hereby certify that on the Eighteenth day of April Eighteen hundred and twenty Eight there was born to my Servant woman Bet, a Slave for life under the law prior to Eighteen hundred and four, a certain female child to which the name of Rose was given being now twenty-one years three months and twenty Eight days old. Daniel Cary Sworn and Subscribed this 16th Day of August 1849 Abijah Young Justice of the Peace Helen in NJ http://NJKithAndKin.com

In 1795 Lawrence MISENER of Mendham, Morris Co., NJ died. He was married to Sarah, d/o Major (RS) Daniel and Rebecca (Owen) COOK, and they had two minor sons. It appears that Lawrence and Sarah were married before July 1791 when Lawrence signed his will as she is listed as wife and sole heir. I have not found any data on the MISENER family. Would there be a Mendham City Directory for the time frame 1790-1795? If so, would someone kindly look to see if any MISENER or the like is listed? The name has spelling variations- MISENER MISNER MIZENER MIZNER MINEGAR MONSINGER MUYSINGER MONSIGNOR MONSEIGNEUR Best regards, Hugh
The second wife of Joseph Casterline was Peninah Searing. She was the daughter of William and Peninah (Burnett) Searing. Can anyone tell me about Peninah Burnett? (The mother of Peninah Searing) Thanks Lori

Hi, Brianne-- Thanks so much for adding the information on the Leni Lenape Indians to the web site. That's the kind of thing that makes family history (micro-history) so interesting. You're a hero! Judy Belle Clark Horick Georgetown, Texas P.S. My Clark ancestors were in Morris County till Horace Greeley went west in about 1874. My most distant New Jersey Clark ancestor was John Clarke who was born around 1686 in Elizabeth-towne. --- "B. The Historical Society of Pennsylvania, located in in Philadelphia, also has many resources of interest to genealogists. http://www.hsp.org/ Depending on the specific locations(s) your are researching, there may be local historical societies as well, or collections in the city or regional public libraries. For example, I had great service from the Easton Area Public Library, which covered some nearby New Jersey towns. And of course Cyndi's List has an area for Pennsylvania: http://www.cyndislist.com/pa.htm --Noelle Ohio At 06:18 AM 6/21/2003 -0700, Judy Belle Horick wrote: >Hi, Gretchen-- > >I spent a day at the Pennsylvania State Archives in Harrisburg and found a >lot. > The address is 350 North Street <www.phme.state.pa.us/>. > >Also, there's a tremendous amount of historical military information at >the War >College in nearby Carlisle. Hi, Gretchen-- I spent a day at the Pennsylvania State Archives in Harrisburg and found a lot. The address is 350 North Street <www.phme.state.pa.us/>. Also, there's a tremendous amount of historical military information at the War College in nearby Carlisle. I've never been there, but I've heard it's a gold mine. Betty: Morris County Courthouse has both the deeds and the wills from 1930 back (and forward, too, for that matter.) They are in the administration building - a newer five story structure next to the courthouse. The County Clerk's office, for Deeds, is on the first floor and the Surrogate's Court, for wills and administrations, is on the 5th floor. There are helpful employees in both offices to get you started and help with questions. When you are checking the deeds - you might also want to check the mortgage indexes. Sometimes you get additional goodies from the mortgages because they could have been held by other family members, etc. When you are looking at estate files, don't forget to look at the application (or petition) for a list of the next of kin, with addresses, etc. You can make copies of any deed and mortgage books you want on the copiers available in the record room. I think copies are 25 cents each and I think you may have to buy a "copy card" for the machines -- but am not sure of that. Copies in Surrogate's Court are $3 per page for plain copies if they make them for you. I do not know if you can make them yourself for less - you'll have to check with them for that. Check out the Morris County website for Surrogate's Court and County Clerks' offices for hours, directions, etc.: Surrogate's Court: http://www.morrissurrogate.com/ County Clerk: http://www.clerk.morris.nj.us/ You might also want to budget in some time for a side trip to the Morristown / Morris Township public library - up the street from the courthouse. They have a wonderful local history and genealogy collection (including personal name indexes for some of the local papers and obituary indexes for them, too.)
