http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~vreelandproject/ http://olivetreegenealogy.com/index.shtml http://www.rootsweb.com/~njmorris/ These sites should have enough Dutch information and databases to keep you busy for awhile! The Montville cemeteries are on both the Olive Tree and Morris County sites, but I don't see your Cooks and Johnsons there. Possibly Pompton Plains? Or Vail? Good luck, Kevin
Hello; My name is Rollin from Michigan and would like any information on Labolt Shauger. He is my g grandfather and was born in Morris County NJ in 1820.He was in the civil war from Michigan and died in Midland Michigan in 1906.Labolt married Martha Whitman in 1859.I don,t have any other information on his family. Thanks
Kevin, Judith Courter Ullman followed this family and helped me on "my" Mowersons (that is, those connected to Van Duyne). Is she still on this List? Dick Van Duyne
It was recently pointed out to me by Michael Duffy that Frederick Pietersze Mourits of Kingston, NY names a son Mourits among his children in his will. Michael also noted a good number of Kingston families among the settlers of Somerset County, which is where Maurice Maurison is first recorded in NJ. The timeline sent earlier is my attempt to see what I could find out, verify, and add to the mix and hopefully find some answers. I pretty much just added the information that shows Mourison locations, connections, and interacting in an effort to try and identify possible children and family of Mourits, so there are a few baptisms not entered. I think a case can be made for Frederick, Peter, Isaac, Jacob, Henry, Abraham and Francyntje. A possibility exists that Mourits' wife was named Judicke. There is also a Roeloff Jacobus connection with the proposed siblings. Any thoughts or comments welcome. Take care, Kevin

Does anyone know if old divorce records are available from the courthouse in Morristown? I can't order a copy from Trenton because I don't know the date- or even the year. This would have been sometime between 1911 and 1917. Also, are the property transfer records (ie, sales of land, homes) as accessible at the Morris County Courthouse as they are in Sussex? I'm planning a trip in early Sept. Went to Newton a few years ago and was allowed free access to read and copy what I needed. Thanks for any help anyone can provide. Shirley in Ohio, but from NJ

I know this has nothing to do with Genealogical research, but.... I am asking those of you who have a prayer list or who believe in a Higher Being to ask to watch over my 74 year old mom tomorrow during her surgery. At 6am EST she fell, dislocated and broke her hip. My mom(Edna Brennan) has other health problems that can cause complications during the surgery. Thanks Sandy :-)*

The program is presented by Dave Phraner and Pete Hassler, Directors of the N.J. Transportation Heritage Center The opening of railroads produced a great change in Montville Township as it led to Montvilles industrial age. The Capstick Mill was located next to Montvilles Railroad Station and was profitable due to its location. Because the mill required workers, more settlers came to the area expanding the population. When the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad began to pass through the township, it put the Morris Canal out of business as goods were cheaper and quicker to transport. Another railroad, the Rockaway River and Montville Railroad, was used to transport stone from the Taylortown Quarry on Hog/Turkey Mountain to the Jersey City Reservoir. The stone was used to build the reservoir. Come see the history of trains in Montville Township. The program is presented at Montville Townships Historical Societys September 8 program, 7:30 p.m. in the Pio Costa Auditorium, Montville Township Library, 90 Horseneck. All are invited to come. Roots-L is currently getting hammered by the Nigerian Scam messages that are somehow getting past the pre-screeners. The membership is really up in arms about it. But, like all things, it too shall pass. I'm sure we've all seen them and know enough not to respond. If they start showing up here, let's not jump on the administrators too much. Let's try to help with solutions. To keep this in genealogy =----- my lines are Haycook/Haycock (back to 1775 Morris, Bergen, Passaic counties; maybe some Greenwood Lake area); Mott (Morris County Morristown area back to 1820, possibly some Sussex County) Cheers Rich in NH

Hi, Rockaway Presbyterian Church in Rockaway Borough is one of the oldest churches in Morris County, according to the Morris County NJ GenWeb page. I called them earlier this week and the secretary indicated they had many old records stored in the church that the church had never transcribed because they could find no volunteers and it was a low priority. Does anyone know if any of these records were transcribed at some point and published in a book or publication? The Morris County NJ GenWeb page listed members of the church prior to 1808. I'm wondering if there were ever any marriages, births or baptisms transcribed. Thank you Debbie Bleger
