The buttons are about the size of a quarter or smaller, there are 3 buttons. The one with the 5 in it has a glass over it , did the best for the condition they were in. Don't know where or when they were taken or who the photographer was. They belonged to my sister-in-law , she is 75 and don't know who the people are. She had them in the pray box that they had been in for many years. They were given to her oldest daughter, they are still in the family and I had taken photos so we now have copys of the tin type photos in case they get harder to see and enjoy. My guess they were my sister-in-law and my husband's grandmother -mother and her brothers and sisters. The family came to the US in 1855 from Ireland, they were as following : JAMES QUINN - b: 1815- Ireland, ANN ? QUINN - b: 1818 -Ireland - wife JAMES QUINN - b: 1844 - Ireland - son JOHN QUINN - b: 1846 - Ireland - son JULIA QUINN - b: 1848 - Ireland - daughter ( our link to the family ) married in the US to JOHN GARR from England CATHERINE QUINN - b: 1852 - Ireland - daughter ELLEN QUINN - b: 1856 - N.J .ANN QUINN - b: 1858 - N.J. The family had lived in 1860's in Morris Co. Rockaway Tws. New Jersey. Because of what I have learned about the family, I believe the 5 could be JULIA QUINN brothers and sisters, and I think one of single ladies could be JULIA QUINN's, Mother , ANN, and maybe the other single could be JULIA herself. I don't know if this is who these people are or not, but the family would not have keep photos of non-family, by things I have found out about the family, they didn't hold on to things. JULIA QUINN married JOHN GARR who was from England, one of their daughters KATHERINE GARR had married GEORGE HEDGES and their son JOHN HEDGES was my husbands father. Can see the tin type photos on - www.Ancientface.com go to Mystery - photos - pick surname "Q" or go to location "N" You don't have to subscribe to see these photos. If one know anything about them would you let me know. Thanks and enjoy Betty
Hello, My Grandmother died at Greystone but I had her exact death date from my deceased father. She died there in 1937 and Greystone had ceased to have records on the premises at that early date; I can tell you that. I called, long distance (always tell them if you are calling long distance if you are; I have found that they will expedite the call) and after speaking to a few people, found the "right person" who could send me a death certificate. There is a Social Security Death Index record of an Amelia Zahn who lived until 1978. Could this be her? Or her daughter?... Does anyone on the list have any idea of the names on the stones stored in the basement of the Flanders Methodist Church? Are the graves that were removed to the Pleasent Hill Cemetery on Rt 10 all that were moved.? I have been searching for years the grave of Catherine Hopkins first wife of Issac Budd. Her parents are in the Cong cemetery in Chester. Jean
Hi List, Sorry for the repeat query but I've lost my previous answers that people were so kind to send. I'm looking to find the date of death of an Amelia Zahn who was an inmate at this hospital in the 1930 census. She was at home in Hasbrouck Heights in the 1920 census so she entered the hospital after 1920. I think she was born April 1878 making her about 52 in the 1930 census so she could have lived quite a few more years. Does anyone know where I could find out anything about a death in this hospital? Also an unrelated question. For someone coming from out of state and with limited time is there a central location in NJ for records? If so what do they have? Or is it better to go to the counties or even the towns or cities involved? Thanks, Gretchen __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! To all who have expressed interest with regard to the recent vandalism at St. Patrick's Cemetery: It is unfortunate that there are those who possess the capability to damage, desecrate and destroy that which we have spent our lives preserving. The fact that no appreciable vandalism has occurred in several years is a testament to those individuals and organizations who have been involved in the seasonal cleanups and restorations each year. The visible improvements have sent a message to hikers and other visitors to the area that we are serious about maintaining the property and, overall, people have been respectful. While this weekend's vandalism is distressing and disappointing, it is important to continue to send the message that this cemetery remains active and to discourage this behavior from repeating. THE REGULARLY SCHEDULED AUTUMN CLEANUP AT ST. PATRICK'S CEMETERY WILL BE HELD ON SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 9th. I extend an invitation to everyone on this list who shares an interest in local history or a basic desire to help keep the dignity of the final resting places of those who shaped our county to join us in the cleanup endeavor. We will be meeting at the Saint Bernard's Parish Hall parking lot on Mt. Hope Road, Rockaway Twp. at 12:15 PM and driving to the cemetery site at 12:30. PLEASE NOTE: Since the cemetery is located in the woods, there will be a hike of about a half-mile or so. If you have any rakes, saws, tarps, loppers and/or gas weed wackers & leaf blowers, etc., please bring them along. Thank you for your time. John Dunado Caretaker, St. Patrick's Cemetery

Tray, I would be interested in anyone with the last name of PURCELL who might have gone to Rockaway at that time. Also O'CONNEL would be nice if that isn't too much trouble. Thank you. Michele in Missouri Researching PURCELL, O'CONNEL, and DAGNAN in New Jersey.
Below are a few names and dates that appear in a family bible; I imagine they are related somehow to my Rogers line. If anyone knows or recognizes anyone, I'd really appreciate knowing about it. Mahalo and take care, Kevin Margaret Clark died March 1874 William M. Clark died Dec. 1869 Ellen Roney died Aug. 1867 (age 74?) Margaret Stickels died March 1874 Nicholas Rogers died April 1873 (married Catherine Jacobus) Harriet Babcock died April 1874 (maiden name Rogers; married David Babcock) Jacob R. Rogers died Sept. 1869 Ellen Stevens born July 21 1795 These are from a bible kept by Mary Rogers, who married James Riley in 1835. They lived by Boardville in 1840, moved to West Milford, then to Pequannock by 1850. Mary is supposedly the daughter of Thomas Rogers, who died in 1835 and was buried in Boardville. Jacob is credited as a brother.
Hello List, I can do lookups for the Rockaway High Schhol From years of 1938-1941 if anyone is interested. Tray Franz
I found a great book at the Family History Center about "Morris County Wills." (The title of the book, if not that, is something very close to that.) It includes the 1700's. If it's not a Reference book, and if your FHC doesn't have it or is not closeby, you might be able to get it thru Inter-Library Loan at the Public Library. (You just need your library card.) You can look up Sarah's name in the Index of the book and possibly find her listed in her *father's* Will-- along with her mother's name and siblings' names-- and any recipients of the father's goods. I even found a daughter's name listed when all she received from the father was a pot! Kathleen LPurch6636@aol.com >>One of my stubbling blocks has been Sarah Haynes. She married Thomas Nixon on March 1, 1775 in New Providence, New Jersey I have no idea who her parents were. I do know she was pregnant when they married as my ancestor, Henry Nixon, was born in 1775. Does anyone know who her father was????? Thanks. Ruth<<
Roz, I too loved the postcards, and taken with how beautiful the Mill was. I have been on a search for the "Wise" mill in Long Valley for a long time. The "W" was on the top of the mill around 1930. My great uncle Ernest Zepplin took many pictures of the area, and I have been searching for some of his postcards. The card of the streets of Long Valley gave me hope that someday there will be a card of the Wise Mill. Jan did a great job with posting the cards on her site. I have hundreds of postcards from early 1900 of NJ, but have not gotten around to all that scanning and putting them on a web. Think I'll post this on Morris and Sussex again.
