    3. Does anyone know which Cook family gave the land for the Denville ME Cemetery, also called the Cook Cemetery? I have a copy of a 1797 land survey of a tract of land in the Rockaway Tract, bought by a John Cook from Benjamin Beach. I feel like this could be the land where the cemetery is, but have no idea to which family the John Cook connects. I hope one of you do, Maryann

    1. RE: [NJMORRIS] John P. Cook Burying Grounds
    2. B. Kelly-Bly
    3. Inscriptions for the John P Cook Burying Grounds can be found at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~njmorris/cemeteries/denville2.htm Some background info: John P. Cook Burying Grounds Located on the Rockaway River Country Club Golf Course Commonly referred to as the Cook Cemetery, this burial place is located at the site of the first Methodist Church in Rockaway Valley, on land belonging to the Cook family. The Church was organized in 1810, and functioned in a small frame building on the Cook property until about 1841, when the building was removed to a lot in Denville and rededicated for Church use. This original Church was known as Cook's Church and it was located on Cook's Corner. The burial site is located in Denville Township, exactly 0.3 miles due north of the intersection of Pocono and Powerville Roads. The stones may be seen on a small hillock, completely surrounded by the golf links of the Rockaway River Country Club. The earliest inscription is dated 1817 (but is no longer readable), while the next ones are dated about 30 years later. Undoubtedly many persons are buried here without extant markers. The above was taken from a manuscript of Bob Illig's that he referred to as the Denville Cemetery Book. 3. Karen- I have access, but I do not see Michael Day arriving in 1882, or in 1883. Are you certain of the date? How old was he when he arrived? Did he come with his parents? I am having a problem with my husband's gr-grandfather Jacob Schnoor who supposedly landed in America on April 16, 1882. Such a precise date, given to us by his daughter-in-law. We haven't found him coming into NY, even though we are fairly sure that he landed in New York or else somewhere on the New Jersey coast. He settled near the Sandy Hook area of New Jersey, right on the water. A family member heard a family "story" that he sailed his own boat over from Germany. Somehow I don't think so.... Maybe it is something with 1882? Good luck! Linda Schnoor ----- Original Message ----- From: "Karen L. 2. Greetings, I'm looking for information on a Theodore Philhower who was a resident of the 'German Valley' area of Washington Twp., Morris Co. or nearby Hunterdon County (Califon area?) during the late 19th century. Any information would be helpful but am especially interested in his son Andrew who may be an ancestor of a distant 'cousin'. Thanks, Rick Novak nilesrick@aol.com

    3. To Morris Mailing list: I would appreciate a look up in the Dover directories for the years of 1907,08, 09. I need the address of the THORNHILL family for those years. I believe the directories would be in the Morristown library. Possibly in the Dover library. I am a member of MAGS but I live out of the area. Thank you Patricia Oberg
