    1. [NJMORRIS] ANDERSON & HAYWARD 1813, Morris Co., NJ
    2. Barbara Montgomery
    3. I recently found out that my 3rd great grandmother was Elizabeth "Betsy" Anderson. She lived in Roxbury Twp. (possibly a town called New Market, later called Drakesville) of Morris Co., NJ. She married Matthias Hayward in New Market on Nov. 28, 1813. They were married by the pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Sucassunna, but I have been told that the church records have disappeared for this time period. I would like to find the parents and siblings of both Matthias and Betsy. Matthias and Betsy lived in Byram Twp., Sussex Co., NJ from the 1820 census through the 1840 census. By the 1850 census they were in Morgan Co., IN but were no longer listed in 1860. Is anyone on the list working on Andersons or Haywards in Morris Co., NJ in the early 1800's? I have foud evidence that many of the Haywards in the area also used the surname Howard. Barbara Montgomery

    3. WOOD, Hopefull & GAUDIN, David. Hi Members, Does anyone have info as to female Hopefull WOOD or David GAUDEN who were wed on 27july1747, at the First Presbyterian Church of Hopewell New Jersy, or for that matter, any male WOOD who might be a sibling of Hopefull who wed David GAUDEN. It seems GAUDEN is a French surname? I have male GGGG Grandfather, Hopewell "Hopeful" WOOD who's birth, I have estimated between 1745-1750, by birth year of my GGG Grandfather Hezekiah WOOD who was born in 1774( from his tombstone) . In my searching I first find GGGG Grandfather Hopeful WOOD in the 1778 Census for Saint James Parish, Anne Arundel County, Maryland; about the same time he is also listed as a co-petitioner while in the Maryland Militia during the Revolution. I would appreceiate any suggestions or help. New to this list, I am Jim Adams [email protected]

    3. Ruth, Joshua Case married Elizabeth Dickerson. I'm not sure of the time frame involved propably before 1755 though. I have Elizabeth b. Southold, NY and d. 1821 other than that I don't know too much about her. I have her parents listed as Thomas Dickerson and Abigail Reeve. Does anyone have anything to refute this? Is Elizabeth also buried in Succasunna? 3. I thought this would be of interest. Enjoy, Kevin Household Tips {from "The American Frugal Housewife" by Mrs. Child (1836), qouted in "The Writer's Guide to Everyday Life in the 1800's" (Marc McCutcheon p.96)} "Look frequently to the pails, to see that nothing is thrown to the pigs which should have been in the grease pot. An ox's gall will set any color-silk, cotton, or woollen. I have seen the colors of calico, which faded at one washing, fixed by it. Where one lives near a slaughterhouse.... the gall can be bought for a few cents. Eggs will keep almost any lenght of time in lime-water properly prepared. One pint of coarse salt, and one pint of unslacked lime, to a pailful of water. If there be too much lime, it will eat the shells from the eggs; and if there be a single egg cracked, it will spoil the whole. They should be kept covered with lime-water, and in cold place.....I have seen eggs, thus kept, perfectly sweet and fresh at the end of three years... If feather-beds smell badly, or become heavy from want of proper preservation of the feathers, or from old age, empty them, and wash the feathers thoroughly in a tub of suds; spread them in your garret to dry, and they will be as light and as good as new. New England rum, constantly used to wash the hair, keeps it very clean, and free from disease, and promotes its' growth a great deal more tham Macassar oil. Barley straw is the best for beds; dry corn husks, slit into shreds, are far better than straw. In winter, always set the handle of your pump as high as possible, before you go to bed. Except in very frigid weather this keeps the handle from freezing. When there is a reason to apprehend extreme cold, do not forget to throw a rug or horse-blanket over your pump; a frozen pump is a comfortless preperation for a winter's breakfeast. Very hard and durable candles are made in the following manner: Melt together ten ounces of mutton tallow, a quarter of an ounce of camphor, four ounces of beeswax, and two ounces of alum. Candles made of these materials burn with a very clear light. Honey mixed with pure pulverized charcoal is said to excellent to cleanse the teeth, and make them white. Limewater with a little Peruvian bark is very good to be occasionally used by those who have defective teeth, or an offensive breath".

    1. [NJMORRIS] KEARNEY
    2. David Kanouse
    3. Posted on: Morris County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NJ/Morris/1869 Surname: KEARNEY, KANOUSE, SCOTT, YOUNG ------------------------- Mary E., wife of Edward KEARNEY, was the daughter of Frederick KANOUSE and Catherine YOUNG. Mary was born 11 August 1834 (age at death) and died 1 January 1866 age 31y 4m 21d. Mary KANOUSE and Edward KEARNEY were married at Caldwell, Essex Co, NJ 29 Sep 1856 (extracted marriage records). They had a daughter, Bertha S. KEARNEY, who was born c. 1858 and is named as his granddaughter in the will of Frederick KANOUSE dated 12 March 1879, proved 13 June 1879 in Passaic County. Mary (KANOUSE) KEARNEY is buried in the northwest corner of the Scott family burial ground, Boonton (Morris Co). Her mother, Catherine (YOUNG) KANOUSE (1802-1869), is also buried there. Catherine was the daughter of Peter YOUNG and Mary (-----), perhaps SCOTT, or perhaps STRUBLE. In 1850, Frederick and Catherine KANOUSE's niece, Margaret Adaline KANOUSE, born in August 1834 and orphaned in 1845, daughter of Joseph KANOUSE and Eleanor THOMAS, was living in Hanover (Morris Co.) in the household of Susanna SCOTT, age 50, along with Jane MUNN, age 44, Elizabeth C. MUNN, age 42, and Elizabeth MUNN, age 77. These facts offer clues that may eventually help establish Mary KEARNEY's connection to the SCOTT family. I would like further information about Edward KEARNEY and his daughter Bertha S. KEARNEY, whose descendants I would like to include in a compilation on the KANOUSE family.

    3. Since it may be of interest, I posted this message to the below mentioned query On my last visit to NJ I located Joshua's grave. He is buried in the 1st Presbyterian Church Cemetery on Main St. in Succasunna, NJ. His stone is in excellent condition. It is made of red sandstone and reads: In memory of Joshua Case who departed this life July the 9th 1777 aged 55 years. I didn't see a stone for his wife but there were a good number of Dickersons buried in the same area. If you go looking, His grave is on the right side of the church as you face it from Main St. and Very close to the Building. 3. I have been reading the Rockaway transcription by John Cresseveur on the Herriman family. I have a Sarah Herriman b. in Elizabethtown, who married Benjamin Bedell (according to the Family Records of Early Settlers of Passaic Valley) in 1757. According to the Rockaway Records there is a Sarah of about the right age, daughter of John Herriman and Miriam Blockman, but says she died in middle age, not married. Does anyone on the list know more of this Sarah or another Sarah who might connect to these Herrimans? Sarah Herriman and Benjamin Bedell's daughter Susannah Bedell was my direct ancestor and married James Hedges in New Providence in 1788. Thank you for your help. 3. Seeking information on ANY Phillip SCHUYLER, born 1717/1718,except the son of Nicholas Schuyler, born 10-27-1717, as he has been eliminated as the subject of my quest. "My" Phillip may have been a descendant of "The" SCHUYLER line of Albany, NY., as at least 3 of his children, and possibly a brother, and brother in law returned to the Albany/Montgomery Co., area of NY. Also, one of his grand children is mentioned in the papers of Capt Arent Schuyler, who was definitely a member of the Albany line. Any help appreciated. This has been a brick wall for about 30+ years for me, and about 50 years before that for my wife's grandfather, who spent a small fortune, thru "professional" genealogists, trying to establish the relationship. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Dick Carter [email protected]
