Posted on: Morris County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NJ/Morris/11911 Surname: Conkling, Sperling ------------------------- I'm pretty sure Margaret was a daughter of William Cachlinn and Lea Sperling who married in Acquackanonk (now Passaic)on Dec.22,1739. Margaret and her husband Dirk are both buried in the Manning Ave.Cemetery in Butler, N.J. The last time I was there their tombstones were still legible. They're in the back of the cemetery, near the tree.

Hi list, Can anyone tell me where I can get look ups for Brooklyn, NY? Like: marriages for 1873. Thanks, Jill [email protected]
Thank you to everyone who helped me with getting that Quigley fax number and for other suggestions that may help me find what I am looking for. Donna Patterson [email protected] http://pattersonfamily.50megs.com
Hello list. I am hoping someone there can help me out. I am trying to find out if there is a fax number for the Quigley funeral home in Dover? I would like to fax them or find out some other way if they would have the information I am looking for. I am hoping to find out if Mildred Ciszeski who died in 1999. She was the second wife of my husband's grandfather. They are buried in Somerset Hills Mem. Park but there is no bronze marker. I have had help from the Morris County Library and they did not find an obit for her. My question to the list is...if she had no children (that we know of) and the State took care of the burial arrangements in conjunction with Quigley Funeral home, and nobody in Trenton has found a death record, could there have been no obit placed? Or would a funeral home post a death notice in a paper or have a copy of the death record? Would they keep that type of information? I just know if I make another call to New Jersey my husband is going to lose his mind! :) 1 Mildred ____ Ciszeski b. January 30, 1915 d: November 19, 1999 in Morristown, Morris County, New Jersey 07960 . +Francis Joesph Ciszeski b: August 30, 1906 in Newark, New Jersey d: March 22, 1990 in Dover General Hospital, Morris County, New Jersey Sincerely, Donna Patterson [email protected] http://pattersonfamily.50megs.com
Judy Ullman 404 Red River Tr 1017 Irving, TX 75063 Dear Wilson I think we finally have the source of Joseph Edwards being the father of a Sarah Courter and I hope it is your Sarah Courter. This is from Abstracts of Essex County, New Jersy, Partitions and Division of Estates, 1793-1881, Recorded at Newark, New Jersey. Abstracted by Virginian Alleman Brown, 20 Meadowbreeze Lane, Washington, NJ 07882, 1981 Book 4, p 431, Map p 435 "Joseph Edwards, of Springfield Tp. Children: Joseph, Moses, Mary Wright, nee Edwards, Vannelly, Mayry wife of Reuben Miller, Nancy, wife of Obadiah Wade, and the children of Sarah Courter, nee Edwards, who died before Joseph (her father) viz Peggy, also deceased, leaving two children under 21, and Peter, also deceased, leaving two children under 21. On Road from the house of Thomas Parsell to Sprinfield, corner of George Drew near Smith Denman, also woodlot adjoining Jacob Wood. Commissioners: Samuel Parkhurst adn Enoch Edwards, and A. Reynolds, map maker. Survey by Samuel Squier. Recorded 24 Jun 1831." And on another Courter question that has been annoying. I looked at the marriage records from Acquackanock Reformed Church yesterday and it states that the Jan who married Nellie Stagg was living in Acquackanock in 1730. According to Greener Jan Courter married second a Peterneeltje "Nellie" Stagg 1730. They had two children recorded in Pompton Plains 10 years later. Jacobus, son of Jan Courte and Lena, witnesses were Jacobus Stegh and Sara bp 1739. Greener states that a mistake was made listing the name Lena instead of Peernelletje as the mother. I question whether Jan the son of Jan is the father of Jacobus or Abraham bp 1841. This is Jan's land records living in Morris County starting in 1719 1719 Joseph Kirkbride of Bucks County, Pa and John Job of Middletown, Monmouth County, NJ sold 1250 acres of land to John Koarta. The lands were west of Pompton Plains eastward to the Bog Valley. This land adjoined the 1,000 acre tract on which present day Boonton lies. "Alex Fowler's book on Morris County houses, describes the tract as running from present day Montville toward present-day Lake Valhalla and east from there toward Changebridge Rd." This land was purchased by Kirkbride and Job from the West Jersey Proprietors in 1715. 1722 John Koarta sold 288 acres to Jacob Demounth in the Rockaway Valley. 1726/7 He was appointed overseer of the Highways in Hanover. Hanover covered a large area that was known as Hunterdon County. This area included Pequanock.
I am researching the descendants of Peter Smith of Jamaica, LI, some of whom lived in Morris Co., NJ. In 1954, Samuel Stelle Smith wrote a genealogy of this Smith family which was published in the New York Gen. & Bio. Record, Vol. 85, entitled, "Peter Smith of Jamaica, Long Island, and Some of His Descendants". Current Smith descendants have submitted material On-line that updates and corrects this genealogy and we are adding more information when found. The Index to the site can be found at: http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~gen2/indexs.htm At present, I am interested in learning more about Dr. Peter Smith of Morris Co., who was born on LI, 13 Feb 1748, and died Morris Co., 16 Apr 1818. In his will written 1 May 1818, and pro. 13 May 1818, his wife was called "last wife Phebe" and his children were: Catherine, widow of Baldwin WOODS; Elizabeth, wife of Jacob VANDERPOOL; Susanna, wife of Foster DAY; Fanny SMITH; Rebecca SMITH (not yet 21); Mary, wife of Samuel BURROUGHS; Frederick SMITH (dec'd). Also named were grandsons Frederick and Calvin SMITH, sons of Frederick SMITH, dec'd. He mentioned other grandchildren, born and unborn, but did not give names of those who were living. Briefly, from Smith's genealogy it is learned that: Peter Smith married 1) Susannah RICHARDS, dau. of Aaron RICHARDS, first pastor of the Presby. Church in Rahway, NJ. Susannah died in 1785, and Peter married Phebe POTTER, dau. of Joseph Potter. Dau. Catherine md Jonathan Baldwin WOODS and the family lived in Spring Valley, NJ. They had eight children. Dau. Elizabeth and Jacob VANDERPOEL moved to NYC after marriage. They had 12 children, seven of whom lived to adulthood and of those, six married. Son Frederick md Charlotte DAY, dau. of William & Nancy (BONNEL) DAY of Chatham. Their son Frederick md (-) BALDWIN and lived in Elizabeth, NJ. Their son Calvin md Louisa J. WARD. Dau. Susanna md Foster DAY, son of William & Nancy (BONNEL) DAY. Susanna and Foster Day had nine children. She died in Elizabeth, NJ. A son William SMITH b in 1787, died in 1809, before his father made his will. Dau. Fanny md as his second wife, Gabriel JOHNSON. They had no children. Dau. Rebecca md 1) Andrew or Anderson LEWIS and 2) (-) VAN SICKLEN. Dau. Mary, who married Samuel BURROUGHS was also called Polly. >From Virginia Alleman Brown's "Morris County Heirs to Estates, 1785-1900": At the Morris County Court, Sept. 1828 Term, Fanny SMITH, a daughter of Peter and the wife of SAMUEL BURROUGHS, was appointed the guardian of the minor children of Peter SMITH: WILLIAM L., PETER F., JOHN N., and LEWIS C. SMITH, all under 14. According to Peter's will, his daughter Mary married Samuel Burroughs. This may have been an original error in the 1828 Court record or one in transcribing. In any case, Peter and his last wife Phebe apparently had four sons who were not named in his will. They were all born after about 1813. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who knows more about any of these families and/or the last Smith sons who were placed under the guardianship of Mary/Polly Burroughs. Thank you, Judy Tooman

Just a suggestion, try another county. I was going through the same thing you are and on a fluke ran the MUNSON name on the Ancestry Daily new item that covered Sussex Co. early marriages. About fell out of my chair when the 2 marriages I had given up finding were there including the film numbers for LDS. Sure made my day when that happened. I had looked at everything I could find from Morris Co. more than once and had no luck. Now the films are ordered and I'm in a waiting mode. Kay Munson Sibert in SE MI
