This event, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Rutgers University Student Center (126 College Avenue, Room 411) beginning at 11:15 a.m. After a brief business meeting, Monmouth County Archivist Gary Saretzky will speak on the topic "Before They Fade: Preserving Your Family Photographs." Among his other photography-related activities, the speaker is a member of the Photo Materials Group of the American Institute for Conservation and has frequently provided consultative services, lectured, and written on the topic of photographic conservation. In his presentation, Saretzky will explain why photographs deteriorate; recommend steps necessary to preserve family photograph collections, including both older types of photographs and digital images; and provide useful tips for photo conservation. Attendees are encouraged to bring samples from their own collections for discussion.
