    2. Did you get the marriage license/certificate from the second marriage and see if it listed her as divorced or widowed? If divorced then the 1st hubby probably moved on somewhere and you can keep searching. If she's a widow, you have to check the undertakers reports to the state on burials to find him. I don't know about NYC but I found out that in Phila. for decades before they issued death certificates, the undertaker had to report a "grave opening" and those were filed with the state. They are in the state archives here. Probably something similar in NY.
