I have seen individuals in the census noted as being bound. The closest to Freehold that I saw in a quick look at my 1850 files were two boys in Manalapan: John Reid, age 8, and Joseph VanNote, age 12. Children of paupers were often bound out for their support. That would have been done under the auspices of the overseers of the poor of each township. I do not know what pertinent records Monmouth County Archives would have. Of course, a child could also bound out as an apprentice. An apprentice agreement was between the apprentice and the master. any records would have been the property of either or both of the individuals involved and not of any government agency. Any other info could be helpful. Sincerely, Scott D.
