Charles Nelson was the first postmaster and remained in that capacity after its name was changed to Nelsonville in 1887. ...Nelsonville post office closed in 1923.' Nelsonville still appears on the county maps. Charles Nelson, born 1824, was the son of James & Susan Nelson and was married to Mary Potts, dtr of John A Potts and Rebecca James.
