Posted by the Asbury Park Press on 02/8/06 ETHELYN O. MAGINNIS, 75, of UPPER FREEHOLD, died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Friday, Feb. 3. Born in Cream Ridge, she was a lifetime resident of Upper Freehold. Ethelyn was very active in the community. She worked for many local businesses and was a member of various organizations and committees, volunteering for many charities. A graduate of Trenton State School of Nursing, Ethelyn worked as a nurse for Dr. Farmer's Hospital in Allentown. She also served as postmaster of the Allentown Post Office and a typesetter for the Allentown Messenger Press. She was the deputy clerk of Upper Freehold for 30 years. She was the co-owner, with her husband, of Central Jersey Realty and most recently worked as a real estate agent for RE/MAX Excel in East Windsor. Ethelyn was a member of the Allentown Presbyterian Church and a past member of the Allentown Villagers and Garden Club. She was the chairwoman of the Allentown Bi-Centennial Organization and was on the committee for the Olde Yellow Meetinghouse Restoration. Ethelyn also wrote several articles, some of which are in the Library of Congress. Daughter of the late Albert and Mabel Oakerson, she was predeceased by three brothers, Charles, Marvin and Clarence Oakerson. Ethelyn is survived by her husband of 53 years, W. Nelson Maginnis; two children, W. Nelson Maginnis Jr. and his wife, Cynthia of North Hanover, and Karen Wagner and her husband, David of West Windsor; her grandchildren, William Tyler and Michelle Maginnis and Michael and Pammie Wagner; a brother, Daniel Oakerson of Browns Mills; two sisters, Doris Lawrence of Cream Ridge, and Evelyn Gaiser of Whiting; a sister-in-law, Sara Bullock of Hightstown; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ethelyn's family requests that her services be private and would like to thank everyone for their care, concern and prayers at this difficult time.
