Hi - I am wanting to request a death record from 1881. My understanding is that I have to request it from the NJ Office of Vital Statistics (rather than the Archives) because it took place after 1878... In reading the website for the Office of Vital Statistics, I am confused about the rule requiring the requestor to submit proof of identify. Is that only necessary when you are requesting a Certified Copy or is it also necessary when you are requesting just a copy of the record for Genealogical purposes (a "certification").
