I have been unable to find the deed. Any ideas where “Shoal > Harbor” would have been??? Does anyone know if early deeds recorded at > Perth Amboy are also recorded in Monmouth Co?? Thanks…Pauline in NY and > Florida > Pauline, You would need to consult the records of the Proprietors of East Jersey to find your provincial-era deed. A good resource to help you understand the Proprietary period -- "Using the Records of the East and West Jersey Proprietors" -- is online (.pdf file) at: http://www.njarchives.org/links/webcat/queries/pproprie.html From 1686 through 1790, Perth Amboy was the capitol of the Province of East Jersey. Please note that the counties in New Jersey did not fully gain the ability to record land transactions until statehood in 1785.
