in 1903 john e stillwell wrote a book-historical and genealogical miscellany, ny 4v.1972 pages. that is listed in the back of my matawan(orig middletown pt) history and i thought you may want to know that it was used as cited in the bibliography. john stillwell is cited as a revolutionary war participant who tried with others to stave off the tories in their whaleboats -and matawan had a large creek at the time where ships came in. this is also where your relative of some connection, lester stillwell met his fate thru being attacked by a shark in matawan creek in 1916. my husbands grandfaather was in attendance that day but was not harmed. lester died. linda erdmann brown-raised in matawan and dau of matawan natives
