    3. Hi Peggy, The Mary and John Smith I referred to in my message were in Middletown during the early 1680's. I don't know Mary's surname, but she is too early to be the daughter of Peter Johnston and Elsje Vanderbilt. Every generation of Smiths had more than its fair share of John's, anyone one of whom could have been married to Mary Johnston. I would love it if you could send me your info. and sources when you have a chance. I have only the first two generations of Smiths figured out, and only the males since my info. is based on deeds, wills, and matched signatures. Whether or not we are in the same family line, the more heads the better!
