It does have a very active alumni association. They have donated lots of money to Jersey Shore Medical Center, now part of the Meridian Health CAre system. I am sure if you called the hospital at 732-775-5500 or the Foundation phone number at 732-776-4382 they could give you a phone number or address for the alumni group. If they can't help I have several friends who are graduates and I can get info from them. Terry katmandu@compuserve.com >> - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - ------------------------------------------ Terry, Thank you for your reply! Sorry to hear that this School of Nursing was closed as I am when any school of nursing is closed (having been a nurse, myself) though the decisions to do so are usually made with the best interests in mind. My mother belonged to the alumini until at least 1980 -- she died in 1982. She looked with much anticipation for the newsletter she received through the years. Her memories of her Ann May were many, some of which she revealed to me; however, I wish she were here to tell me more. She left me a copy of her Class Day Exercises, dated (Thursday, May Fourteenth, Nineteen Fourteen). She wrote the Class Poem which I will post separately. I would appreciate your asking your friends if they would obtain information about the early days from the Alumnae Archives -- I would contact the hospital or foundation numbers you supplied but I was hoping to avoid the cost of a lone distant phone call which would probably only give me a dreaded and despised "menu" and little, if any, information. Thank you! I lived in that area from the 40's to the 60's and I don't remember any place suitable in Spring Lake for a nursing school. can you tell where it was? Don Lutz Virginia Beach >> - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - ------------------------------------------- Don, Ann May Memorial Homeopathic Hospital with its School of Nursing was located in Spring Lake since 1907. I do not have the address but the phone number for its Nurses' Registry was 66 Spring Lake. I have a copy of a card stating the terms of the Registry members which shows how far nurses have come (not far enough yet, though) since the days my mother practiced nursing. It is my understanding that the building which housed the student nurses is still standing; however, it is used as a "nursing home" now. The Hospital has been replaced with something else. Esther Wright San Antonio, TX ============================================================ (Original query--04/24/2000 12:32:26 PM Central Daylight Time From: EWRIGHT210@aol.com) << This school (Ann May School of Nursing) was originally in Spring Lake and later became Fitkin Memorial. Now it is in Neptune, NJ as Jersey Shore Medical Center, I believe. My mother graduated from Ann May in 1914. Does anyone have any infomation regarding Ann May and its history, pictures, etc.? My mother met my father in Spring Lake where he once had Hofmann Plumbing Shop around 1916-1921. Infomation on this business would be appreciated. My father was a great amateur photographer and took many pictures of the Lake and its swans, his family, and some of his friends including King, Buckalew Girls. Would love to put the correct names on these pictures--I have the negatives! Esther Wright ewright210@aol.com >>
