    1. Stillwell books and archive info
    2. This may be of interest to you. DO NOT ASK ME FOR INFO AS DAVID HAS IT, NOT I. HE SENT THIS TO THE NJ LIST, WHICH I HAVE ADVISED YOU ALL TO CHECK OFTEN FOR WILLS ETC. Linda _dtourison@vcn.com_ (mailto:dtourison@vcn.com) DAVID TOURISON Howdy folks - recent queries on 'where the Stillwell Books can be found', or, 'are they online', has prompted me to answer this way. I own the Stillwell books. Mine are ex-libris, and so I suspect one might find them in libraries, or privately owned. I do not know if they are online or not, but as many of you know, when I find books on NJ history, or of NJ genealogical relevance, I usually advertise that I have them, and if folks want me to research them, am only too glad to help where I can. Other recent additions to my collection include: NJ Archives, Marriage Records, 1665-1800 NJ Archives, Patents & Deeds, 1664-1703 History of Baptists in New Jersey, by Griffiths (ex-libris) Northwestern NJ - A History of Somerset, Morris, Hunterdon, Warren and Sussex Counties, Volumes I thru V, by A Van Doren Honeyman (published in 1927; the last three volumes are biographies of prominent families of the period.} I'm in the process of transcribing some of the contents of Volumes I & II of the Stillwell books, as well as transcribing Volume XXIII of the NJ Archives series, covering 1670-1730, and doing pro-bono research for 3 other clients, so my time is strictly limited. This is not meant to dissuade any of you in asking for some of my research time - am ALWAYS too glad to help where I can, but understand that due to the high demand for this gratis service, there is, naturally, a delay of sorts, in my getting back to you after your queries. I only have Wednesdays and Sundays to perform the research, which doesn't really allow much time at all when requests are running high. Sooooo, if anyone out there wants me to do some research in the Stillwell books, or any others, do not hesitate to ask, just expect some delay. And too, for my own records log, when you do ask for help, kindly give me a first and last name, and a city and state or country. Some of you have similar names and with so many requests, that more detailed information is a real help. David Tourison Sheridan WY

    1. Re: [NJMON] Bound boys
    2. I have seen individuals in the census noted as being bound. The closest to Freehold that I saw in a quick look at my 1850 files were two boys in Manalapan: John Reid, age 8, and Joseph VanNote, age 12. Children of paupers were often bound out for their support. That would have been done under the auspices of the overseers of the poor of each township. I do not know what pertinent records Monmouth County Archives would have. Of course, a child could also bound out as an apprentice. An apprentice agreement was between the apprentice and the master. any records would have been the property of either or both of the individuals involved and not of any government agency. Any other info could be helpful. Sincerely, Scott D. 1. rootsweb search??
    2. Terri
    3. Hi All -- I'm wondering if anyone knows........ When you do a surname search - locality specific --- you get the list of folks who've posted messages with the surname in the locality -- ie --- the Cox surname list and MA the locality. The list includes the person's web-name, which you can click on to get their snail mail address. My question is -- is there anyway to find the actual message they posted at the Cox surname list? I'm trying a search of the MA locality with the surname Cox, and that's okay, but it gives me all the folks with "cox.net" email addresses. I'll continue to do this if it's the only way and I'm going to try a Cox surname search, using MA as the keyword. Being lazy maybe, but would like to get to the messages I found interesting??? Thanks, Terri

    3. Are there any records of children put out as bound boys? Where should I look? I am interested in a boy born 1842 who may have been bound out in Freehold in the 1840's. Anita

    1. Burnt Bridge
    2. Joe Pawlick
    3. In an 1811 deed I'm researching I find reference to "... a bridge over the Musquash Brook known by the name of the Burnt bridge.." Musquash Brook is runs into Musquash Cove which is in the northwestern corner of Shark River. The early maps I have show the cove and the brook but no bridge. This is not the bridge on Lakewood Road - that bridge was built much later. Can anyone help? Joe in Asheville, NC

    1. PETTIT Surname
    2. Stephanie
    3. Hello Friends, I seem to have missed a few emails from the list and also a reply to my post. I'm not sure if the problem is with Rootsweb or my ISP. I am researching the name PETTIT in New Jersey around 1800, they went to NYC by 1801 and by 1820 were in Cincinnati Ohio. I recently found a marriage record for John Pettit and Catherine Hays, October 13, 1799 in Monmouth NJ. This is very exciting to me as my ancestors were John and Catherine Pettit and he was born in NJ; their child was born in 1801. Researching in this area is new to me; I would appreciate any help in what records are available or good books on the history of the area. Thank you very much. Stephanie Miller
