    1. [FWD: [GSNJ] Monmouth County marriage index online!]
    2. -------- Original Message -------- Subject: [GSNJ] Monmouth County marriage index online! From: "Joan M Lowry (GSNJ)" <jml-gsnj@earthlink.net> Date: Fri, January 13, 2006 6:16 pm To: NJ-GSNJ-L@rootsweb.com Fellow GSNJ list members - today we received notice of a new online record source that should be of interest to many of our society and list members! Gary Saretzky (Archivist, County of Monmouth) wrote the following: http://www.visitmonmouth.com/archives/lgmarrsearch.asp The above link is to the first online index developed to a record series in the Monmouth County Archives. Mary Ann Kiernan, Archives Reference Specialist, worked with Dave Roberts of Monmouth County Information Services to develop this excellent resource, which indexes 11,665 marriages, 1790-1938 (bulk 1795-1878). For an overview of our marriage records, see http://www.visitmonmouth.com/archives/marrig.asp We plan to add other such online indexes in 2006. Please feel free to share this information with others you think may be interested. Gary Saretzky Archivist, County of Monmouth Happy hunting everyone! Regards, Joan Joan M. 1. Monmouth Co PEARCE Marriages
    2. I am seeking additional information on the following 2 marriages from the Monmouth County, NJ, Archives: HUSBAND WIFE DATE BY 1 Conck, Stephen Pearce, Hannah 03/28/1818 Davison, J. 2 Pearce, Robert Pearce, Debroah 01/08/1827 Little, W. Robert (Marriage 2) was descended from Jeremiah Pearce through his son, Adam. Robert had a son, Stephen Conk Pearce (born Jul 28, 1827), and his middle name of Conk prompts the interest in Marriage 1. I know nothing of either Stephen Conck or Hannah Pearce, but they are of significant interest. My current interest in Marriage 2 is Debroah [Deborah?]. Her maiden name was also Pearce, and I would like to find out more about her family. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. Ted (George T) Pierce

    1. nj marriages to be listed. see note from david
    2. Note from linda- please forward as you receive this email to other lists since it will appear in the nj digest. you need to register now! _NJ-D@rootsweb.com_ (mailto:NJ-D@rootsweb.com) SUBSCRIBE AND THEN ANY POSTINGS TO _NJ-L@rootsweb.com_ (mailto:NJ-L@rootsweb.com) IF YOU WANT TO GET INFO- LOTS OF NY, CT AND OTHER(PA?) LOCATIONS PROB. WILL BE MENTIONED FOR BRIDE OR GROOM. BLESS DAVID FOR DOING ALL THIS WORK. Howdy ALL - well, your verdict is in - I will continue doing as have been doing and simply transcribe as they are in the book - which is alphabetical and males separated from female. Now that's what is going to my rootsweb contact anyway. IN ADDITION, since it seems evident that most of you don't realize what has already been transcribed, I will begin to post the material to this mailing list. The material which I will send, while similar to what is in the archives at rootsweb will have to be a shorter version, in that the mailing list has data limits that they can process on back to the list, estimated to be about 7 pages, single spacing, whereas in the archives they can take all that I give them, even if 100 pages in length and greater. To put you on the right path, understand that I will be including the page number for reference, and not omitting it as had planned. In this way you will then have a citable source for the data. And too, the material may contain errors. Sometimes the errors are typo errors on my part (apologies in advance), and sometimes the error is done by the printer or publisher or author. Here's two examples, which are erroneous, purely made up: Surname beginning with S - Male: Small, Ebenezer, Burlington, and Mary Hope, Bucks Co., Pa. 1743 June 18 Surname beginning with H - Female: Hope, Mary, Bucks Co., Pa., and Ebenezer Small, Burlington 1747 June 18 Because I am merely transcribing what is on the pages, I cannot be sure which date is correct, and which is not. And until you can confirm it one way or the other, neither should you. Here's another example: Surname beginning with E - Female: Ivins, Sarah, Orange Co., N. Y., and George Hawkins, Cape May 1734 May 8 Surname beginning with H - Male: Hawkins, George, Cape May, and Sarah Evens, Orange Co., N. Y. 1734 May 8 In the 2nd example, a person with a surname beginning with a different letter than the section it is listed for, will require me to make note of the variance in the wrong section entry, as the correct entry will be discovered by looking up the partner entry for the correct spelling of the female spouse. Any time I use my own words in these transcriptions, I generally try to use double brackets - [[ ]], followed by my initials 'dwt'. In the past, I may have used single brackets, but only because single brackets were not used by the author. I probably will continue to create separate postings for different counties and/or various areas as am trying to use the data in the NJ Archives, and other sources to re-create a census of sorts, for time periods prior to 1830, when census records for NJ exist. In my feeblest of mind games, I thought it might make a great project for the mailing list, to (collectively) by working on our own various lines, try to prove who was alive when and where, and thereby create our own census records, albeit in most cases somewhat unproven. No harm in dreaming, hey? Anyway, am at work at the moment, and unable to write on the subject further. Will probably begin transmitting marriage data next week. The night job comes first, and my break is over. IDLE is not a word allowed in the dictionary of a janitor. God Bless. David

    1. Annual Holiday Message - List Administration
    2. Pat Mount
    3. Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah! As internet genealogy and family history have grown, the number of "first timers" joining our lists has diminished and we don't see the huge numbers of new users that we used to see after the holidays. However, starting today, Santa, among others, will still have delivered new computers, internet service, and genealogy gifts (software). Thus, we may be seeing some new "rooters" on our lists. This is GOOD! But while you may see new cousins, friends, and contacts coming on-line, joining email lists, posting surnames to databases, they will be asking all those questions you have seen posted over and over again. Unfortunate as it may be, new users mean we have to reinvent the wheel. *Grin* Please welcome any "newbies" to our lists, have PATIENCE with them, help them and hopefully send them in the right direction. For a month or so it will be helpful if we can refrain from using a lot of initials and abbreviations in our responses. When discussing the FHC, let's all take a couple of seconds to type "Family History Center," and give an explanation of who, what, where, when. Please don't assume that EVERYONE knows what it is, or has one near them. I can't stress enough how important your patience and help is for the next month or two. Mistakes will be made, (like posting a message that is blank, or no subject line, or leaving entire digests in replies or my personal favorite, "Researching John Johnson. Send all information"!*LOL*) Questions will be asked like "What is the FHC, what is the SSDI, what is, can you explain, where do I find, etc...Remember that these were once OUR errors and OUR questions. We were all new once, and many current subscribers are still learning, so let's continue the spirit of cooperation throughout the year. This list is about helping each other. Let's be specific and clear in our responses to folks, and give a little extra in explanations. Also keep in mind that new subscribers may know little about computers, the internet, and genealogy, resulting in many extremely inexperienced researchers. If you see questions on the list regarding computers, software, etc. please respond to these questions off list if at all possible. REMEMBER these new researchers may have file cabinets full of information regarding YOUR own family tree, so let's be as cordial, helpful and informative as we can be! Stay warm, drive safely and may your day be Merry and Bright..... Pat Mount List Admin
