    1. Re: [NJMONMOU] Census volunteers - make a difference!
    2. Hi. Unfortuanately I don't have time to do transcribing, but I do have an idea for a corporate sponsor to help offset the cost of doing the census transcription. The Asbury Park Press has its own grant that can range up to $1500.00 and I think this is something they might just go for.I would be glad to write the grant if a few people would be willing to give me input on it. 3. > If it involves Monmouth County, I would be happy to transcribe, as long as the CD's and/or papers are provided to me. Richard, Great! Thank you and welcome on board. We can't supply CDs, unless someone will let you borrow theirs and that is a risky thing to do, as we have 0 money for this. We need a corporate sponsor or his. so. with big $ to help to be able to provide that, as I don't see that happening, I wouldn't hold my breathe.. But if you can't rent, buy, beg, borrow or (no not steal!) we could have you do data entry from paper forms mailed or delivered to you. Think of any cost as a donation to the cause, remember no volunteering comes free to the volunteer, but the rewards are immeasurable. Films are cheaper (ten dollar range to buy, rental less) but would have to be taken to a reader. Try your local libraries or colleges, I am always amazed at who has things that I was't aware of. Where do you live? Maybe if I knew I could make suggestions. Maybe a local historical society could assist. Would you like to help by making some inquires into availability and cost? Check out the sections on obtaining the census at the USGenWeb Census project site. Go to http://www.USGenWeb.com, then scroll down just a little through the census 2000 info to the Census project on the left side and click on it and check out the different information choices there. They have a lot of resources, I and I know there are others. What area would you like to work on? Any suggestions? Anita

    2. Anita, I have access to a local LDS center, where I go periodically anyway....with a lead as to the microfish #, I might be able to minimize my costs and help out. FYI: I am a volunteer fire/rescue person, so I do know what the costs can add up to! sincerely, masterdstr

    3. Hi Teddies96, Go to the nearest Mormon Church Family History Center (nearly every church has one) and ask them for help. The usual place to start is the federal census. 3. One more question I had re: my trip... If someone was said to have lived in Egg Harbor at the time of the revolutionary war, where would that actually be today? Egg Harbor City or on the coast? And if on the coast, which county? Tuckerton in Ocean; or in Burlington or Atlantic county? Thanks, Mary Burdick Watertown, MA

    1. [NJMONMOU] Research trip to NJ
    2. Mary Burdick
    3. Hello Monmouth listers. I'm planning a research trip to NJ soon to research some elusive Wooley ancestors. My g-g-g-grandfather was Joel Wooley (1791-1872). He died in Ohio and lived in Enfield, Tompkins county, NY between about 1814-1835. He most likely is related to another Joel Wooley who lived in the Shark River area of Monmouth county from about 1757 and died in Tomkins county NY in 1822. I've got lots of deeds which this Joel Wooley was involved with. And several wills which he witnessed or executed. I've never found any sure proof of my theory that these two are father and son (or even uncle and nephew) ... and have recently received some conflicting information which asserts that my g-g-g-grandfather Joel was the son of a John Wooley and was born (or at least lived in ) Egg Harbor before going to NY. So here's my question? Where do you suggest I start my research? And where should I definitely not miss? I know about: - Monmouth County Archives - Monmouth County Historical Society - Rutgers ( some collection) I've done a lot of deed and will research using microfiche and writing away for things. Is Ocean County going to be a must visit? My ancestors were defintely out of NJ by 1818. Thanks!! Mary Burdick Watertown, MA

    2. Did anyone answer Nila's question: were James Davis and Judith Maxson the parents of William Davis who m. Elizabeth Havens about 1773 in Monmouth Co.? I am interested in the answer too. From Nila's recent post, I think I learned that William & Elizabeth (Havens) Davis' son, Jonathan, m. Piety Maxson. I have Piety Maxson (b. abt 1782) as dau. of Ephraim Maxson and Elizabeth Davis. This Elizabeth Davis was dau. of William Thomas Davis and Tacy Crandall. Please correct me if I have gotten off the track. 3. Hi, Under ALLEN genealogy is the statement "The family of Allen has been surpassed by none in our county in wide-spread numbers and usefulness." So you'll have to be a little more specific. There are genealogies for: Ralph of Thurcaster, Eng, whose son George was the ancestor of most. There's George, son Ralph, son George, Joseph son of Ralph the younger, Jedediah son of same Ralph. Be glad to help, Nancy ----- Original Message ----- From: <Masterdstr@aol.com> To: <NJMONMOU-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, March 21, 2000 11:11 PM Subject: Re: [NJMONMOU] > Nancy, > Noting your lookups in This Old Monmouth of Ours. 3. Hi Phyllis, > Does anyone know where Sharon NJ is? It's supposed to be in Monmouth > County. It is definitely in Monmouth County. Herbert Road (which is in Upper Freehold) runs right through it. It is about 1 mile east of the border of Mercer County. Sharon is also about 1.5 miles southwest of Cooleys Corner. I got this information from the New Jersey Atlas and Gazetteer by DeLorme (c1999). $16.95 This atlas always includes parts of New York and New York City, PA and Philadelphia, and part of Delaware. You can order one from this website - www.delorme.com DeLorme has Topo maps for every state. They are wonderful with detail. I hope that this helps. Cindy Mesa, AZ
