It is on-line now but not much information is on it yet. You can contact the church by e-mail but I have been told by the church historian that the church does not have any records earlier than the late 1880's.

    1. [NJMONMOU] Imlay's [Emley's] Hill Methodist Church
    2. Mathew A. Page
    3. The following is taken from "History of Monmouth County NJ" by Franklin Ellis. pg. 637. "The IMLAY' HILL METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH dates back nearly a century. In the year 1790 a few Methodists desirous of having a meeting-house in the vicinity of Imlay's Hill met at the house of Samuel Imlay and elected the following-named persons trustees: Jonathan Coward John Kein Joseph Page John Gregory Thomas Sill Jonathan Page Samuel Imlay John Page Joseph James At the same time Samuel Imlay conyeved to the trustees in trust one acre of land for church purposes. On this lot a church edifiice was erected in 1790. It was destroyed by fire in 1807, and being rebuilt, was used until 1855, when it was replaced by the present church, which was dedicated December 25th in that year. A chapel was erected at Imlaystown in 1866, and dedicated January 30, 1867, under charge of J.P. Coinnelly. The trustees elected in 1790 served until February 10, 1816, when an election was held at "Emlay's Meeting-House" with the following result. Ezekiel Robins, Joseph Rouzee, Richard C. Robbins, Thomas Throp, Cornelius Hance, John Allensmark, and Andrew Nelson. " It also lists ministers. DIRECTIONS TO IMLAY"S HILL METHODIST CHURCH - Someone A while back gave me these directions, however, I'm not 100% sure that they are correct since I've never been there "Rt 195 Exit 11 Wrightsville, Go up the ramp, make a right to end of road 1/4mile. turn left (big horse farm on right, white fence). Just past it, go up a hill, church is on the left. Imlaystown cemetary is here.Started as ME church in 1992 with pastor Gregory Bruton. Church located on Emleys Hill Road EMLEY's HILL CEMETERY is a different place, and is indeed on Burlington Path Road. To get to it from Imlaystown you would need to go up past the school (turn left as you come out of the cemetary and it will be up just a smidgeon on your right) and proceed on that road, making a right left onto Davis Station Road. You'll come out at the Cream Ridge Golf Course. Turn left, and proceed down that road, looking for a small strip mall on the left (the Cream Ridge Post Office is there). That's Burlington Path Road. You'll go past another golf course (on the right) and eventually come to a hill. The church and cemetary are on your left. I hope this doesn't add to the confusion! Mathew Page mapage@prodigy.net

    1. [NJMONMOU] History of Monmouth Co. by Ellis on eBay
    2. Hello listers, I hope this is OK to post. For sale on ebay (http://www.ebay.com) there is a 1973 reprint of the original 1885 book History of Monmouth County by Ellis. Sounds like a good deal. I'd buy it but I already have the original 1885 version. Go to the site and do a search for "Monmouth". PS. I am in no way connected with eBay or this sale. I just think this is a rare book and should be grabbed up by a Monmouth Co. researcher. Again, sorry if this is inappropriate to post here. thanks, Joe Collins KeyportKid@aol.com

    3. Hi Peggy, The Mary and John Smith I referred to in my message were in Middletown during the early 1680's. I don't know Mary's surname, but she is too early to be the daughter of Peter Johnston and Elsje Vanderbilt. Every generation of Smiths had more than its fair share of John's, anyone one of whom could have been married to Mary Johnston. I would love it if you could send me your info. and sources when you have a chance. I have only the first two generations of Smiths figured out, and only the males since my info. is based on deeds, wills, and matched signatures. Whether or not we are in the same family line, the more heads the better! 3. Suzanne I'd be interested in .....well, Clayton, Collins, Elliot, Emley, Ivins, Pancoast, Parker, Robins, .....but actually in any of the others that you send out data on. Maybe you could just post to the list, as you work off the names requested?? Do you or anyone else know the history behind this Cemetery? Is it affiliated with any particular sect/church? I was surprised to see so many of my ancestral family names listed. Bill
