Doris, Try contacting the Monmouth County Archives in Manalapan, NJ. They have orphan records, and should be able to help you. -----Original Message----- From: Doris <dori_adapotata@prodigy.net> To: NJMONMOU-L@rootsweb.com <NJMONMOU-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Wednesday, April 12, 2000 9:12 AM Subject: [NJMONMOU] Orphans Court >Could some one tell me where I could find records of Orphans Court in Monmouth Co.? Is Juliana Cahill the only "CAHILL" listed??? If there are other CAHILL's would you please provide what you have? Many thanks!!!
The Orphans court minutes for Monmouth County have been filmed by the Mormon Temple, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. You can order them from Salt Lake City at your local Family History Center. You need to order the index, too. It is on film #802121. It covers years 1785-1867. It will tell you the File and page number. Files A thru E are on Film #802172. Files F thru H are on Film #802173. I didn't record the corresponding film numbers for the files I thru Z...but I'm sure they are available. JC

With the help of some of you good NJ researchers I am making progress on finding the father of my Daniel Taylor (b. 1758) somewhere in NJ. I could use some help on defining the county formations in this period of expansion ( mid to late 1700's). I have found records that say Hunterdon Twp and some that say Hunterdon County and some with Monmouth Co. I realize that there are probably Hunterdon Twp's in both. Having experienced this in VA on another line, I remember thinking my ancestors moved around a lot, but actually it was the counties being divided over time. I have some leads in Colt's Neck, Freehold, and Middletown, which all appear today to be in Monmouth Co. These would all be prior to 1758. I am assuming that Hunterdon Co. might have been formed later since it is further west. Any help or directions to resources would be appreciated.
Hi Corrine!! ......Thank goodness for the Ocean Hist. Soc......and you Corrine! I came last summer dragging two parents and two kids....remember,they gave me a whole hour to do research!! :) (I don't know what I would have done without your help by the way....) Unfortunately, I live in WV....is there any place where it could be purchased? If you could give me the name of both the publisher and compiler maybe I could put a search on it.....Many, Many thanks as always! Nancy Pratt
John P. Van Pelt (1767-1845), Captain of the steamboat "Saratoga," tried unsuccessfully to get Brown's Point renamed Johnsburg after himself. Any information regarding this event would be appreciated. George Joynson gj@atlanticmedical.net
Nancy, was wondering if you had any PRATT family from Monmouth Co? Looking for information on my husbands great grandmother JOSEPHINE PRATT b. 1852/2 d. 1891. She married WILLIAM CHARLES BENNETT about 1858. All I know about her is that her fathers name was DAVID and her mother MARY? Thanks, Yvonne GeneralNan@aol.com wrote: > Doris, I have been trying to find the Smith , Grant, and Irons book > forever....could you pease tell me where you located it?
