Could you tell me which site lists the Cemeteries in the Asbury Park area Thank You
There is an updated YK2 History of the Borough of Neptune City by Richard Cottell available to all borough residents. It will be available to the general public at Borough Hall after July 10th. They want to be sure they have enough for the residents first. The cost will be $5. I am willing to do lookups. Mr. Cottrell gave me permission. This is a privately published book not a Heritage book.
I'll have to go into admin area and check max message size setting but I rec'd, through the list, a three part posting on burials. I have it saved in my files! Pat Mount NJMONMOU list
Is anyone familiar with this census? I have located someone on an index but don't know what it will reveal. Can anyone help? Thanks, Karen

Rosehill Cemetery, Matawan NJ is not primarily a Catholic Cemetery. Also, it is not close or near Asbury Park.
Hey, Whatcha been up to? Hope you're feeling well. I've been working on my scrapbooks a lot lately so am not on-line much until after 8:00 pm. Barb BAWyckoff@worldnet.att.net

This tract had since 1660 been the plantation of Pieter Jansen De WITT. Pieter LOTT, the son-in-law of De WITT, purchased the farm in 1720. Abraham POLHEMUS of Brooklyn, born 1719, settled in Bushwick, where he died in 1781. He bought the farm in 1749 & erected the Manor House on the Woodpoint Road, on what is now the roadway of Monitor St near Engert Ave, close to the Junction of Meeker Av. It stood back from the roadway in a big clump of trees; facing south east, its rear toward the creek. It was an unusually large frame house of Dutch architecture with half doors, four good rooms on the ground floor & a large hall running through the centre & wide piazzas along the front and rear. In course of the years the house had become dilapidated and shattered by age & the storms of the hard winters of the 1840's & was almost untenable. It was known as the MENIUS Manor House. Peter WYCKOFF had bought the property in 1797, & the WYCKOFF family occupied it for a time. The WYCKOFFs sold in 1847 a large part of the land to David C. & A. G. KINGSLAND, who in turn disposed of it in 1880, it was then laid out in building lots. The Manor House had been repaired & turned into a road house. Ball games were played in the surrounding grounds on Kingsland & Norman Ave. They became known as CLARKSON'S Grounds, Bob CLARKSON being the inn keeper. The people returning from Calvary Cemetery used to stop there for refreshments. Later one RUGHER kept the inn. In 1892 the structure was demolished & its timbers were used in erecting a house on the corner of Maspeth & Morgan Aves, which was occupied by workmen of Peter COOPER. It was painted a red color & was still standing about 6 yrs ago. The Manor House Cafe , cor Meeker & Kingland carried the name of the old Manor House which is remembered by the baseball fans who used to frequent the ball grounds. Until the Union Grounds were laid out, between Harrison & Marcy Aves, the Eckford Club played opposite the Manor House on a vacant strip of land of the BACKUS estate. The club did not have to pay any fee for this privilege. Conselyea St & the nearby streets running east led into a patch of forest known as the BACKUS Woods. Grand Street car stables stood opposite the Manor House, in a fire in 1876 fifty horses were lost here. --part1_22.558bb01.264333d9_boundary--
Jackie: I never heard that the old hospital was called Fitkin. I thought that Fitkin was always on Corlies Avenue. I lived in SPH in the 40's and 50's so it must have been other than a private hospital before that, and I remember when they changed the designation from 4N to 71. I also remember the name Jackie Goslin but I just can't place you. Hello List My husband was born and raised in Matawan. He is a cousin to the Rinear family and we do have contacts with them. At this point I am not ready to contact the Fountain Family. I am just interested since two of our NIVISON family have Fountain as a middle name. I am not familiar at this time with all the names in the cemetery, of course. I wish to know if it would be useful or desirable if I post the names and info on the gravestones we have photographed?? Kit WILLMOT-Hickey, South Toms River, NJ
Rose Hill isn't a Catholic Cemetery. Nearby is St. Joseph's in Keyport. It is a Catholic Cemetery and the church is about 125 years old.
Well, since the subject of Rosehill cemetery came up, I thought would explain my dilemna..... My ggrandfather Samuel LANEs death cert. says he was buried there in 1901. They have no record of him. His wife, Caroline LANE, who died in 1926, according to her death cert. was buried in Rosehill cemetery in Linden NJ. They have no record of her! Neither cemetery has a record of the spouse. Any ideas? They have to be buried somewhere! They lived in NYC/Brooklyn at the time of their deaths. Anyone have any ideas on where to look next? Thanks.......Laurie Byrd
I think I passed the place that was once Fitkin Hospital in Spring Lake Hts today. I was on my way home to MA. It is where the Spring Lake Heights Senior Residence is on Rte 71 once known as 4N or the Manasquan Pike at Wall Rd. Across from Eggiman's Tavern. I also have heard it was once the home of the Eggiman's. Jackie, once a Jersybel
The Catholic cemetery in the Asbury Park Area is Mt. Calvary 705 Second Ave. Asbury Park 732.775.3320. It is located just off Route 66 across the street from the Ames Store and Shop Rite. We looked in there once and I don't remember how old the cemetery is but know it is still active.
