I stand corrected. There is a part of the York Rite of Masons that is also called Knights Templar. their site: <http://www.knightstemplar.org/> Jeff Owens

Would like to start pulling together clues/sources on Benjamin Thorp/Tharp, who in 1789 removed from Shrewsbury (NJ) in order to settle in the state of Virginey. Other names on this item in the Seventh Day Baptist church records are: Jacob Davis, William Davis, Sr., Ephriam Maxson, Thomas Babcock, Zebulon Maxson, and Benjamin Thorp. The other lines are pretty well documented ... but what about the ancestors of Benjamin Thorp (who married Elisabeth Maxson about 1788/1789 and he died 15 Apr 1804). Elisabeth is the daughter of Zebulon Maxson, Sr. and Experience Davis. She married 2nd on 20 July 1807 to Enoch Moore. But I need to know more about Benjamin Thorp/Tharp. Hi, Maggie and Barbara, Guess my brain was mush last week when I first saw the reference to Sarah Smock Bennett - should have set off bells and whistles for me. My husband is descended through John Leffert Bennet and Sarah Logan. FYI, that is the family referred to as being buried "on the Cross Farm in Scobeyville" in "Book of the Dead" that has been mentioned recently. I am trying to pin down exactly where on the property the cemetery was. I know it is part of the property that now contains the Green Acres Park on Laird Rd., and have spoken with people at the Township Hall in Colts Neck. The cemetery was vandalized about 25 years ago - before I knew that was the family I was searching for - and that particular area of the park is very overgrown. I think the last time I was there, I probably got within 50 feet of it. The Township is aware that the cemetery is there and does not plan to descecrate it in any way, but my next effort is to get them to clear and mark it - it does contain a burial of a Rev. War soldier, so hoping that will get them to do something. It actually contained 17 burials, including my husband's g grandfather's 2 siblings who died in the 1850s. (Maggie, they are the children of Stout Holmes Bennet that we spoke about.) Barbara, get back to me privately so we can compare notes. -- Candy_B cbservices@monmouth.com Researching Bennett, Cooper, Vanderveer, Woolley & related families in NJ Researching O'Brien, Brown, Boyle, Cavanaugh, Noonan, Fitzgerald, Spellman, Messier (Macey), LaCroix (Cross), Blais (Blair), Durand, Simonneau, Chabbot (Jabbot, Jabaut), Boucher, Sharron and related families in NY, New England and Quebec
David, What the clue to finding a place to park to get to it?
Wow! I never knew there was a cemetery there - will have to watch. There is another one right where 35 and 36 come together in back of the Office Max Plaza. We saw a stone there in the winter when there was no foliage. There were markings like someone was going to build something - I hope I was wrong.
This cemetery is hard to get to and has been damage very badly. If you like you can call and I will tell you how to get to it or I can take you to it. When you exit Rt 18 south bound to Rt 36 east bound you can see it in the woods. There is a sign showing the two lanes merge and it is to your right in the woods. Cindy: Britton Bennett and Rebecca Newman had a daughter named Mary and a son named Jeremiah. It is possible that he was the son of Jeremiah Bennett and Mary Emmons. Mary would have been only 44 in 1800. Maggie Redden
Barbara: I have a Sarah Smock born 1730 who married John Bennett b 1730 They wre married Jan 16 1749. Their children were: Eyda b. 1751; Jan b 1753, Barent b 1755; John leffert b. 1757 m Sarah Logan; krinjans b. 1760; Hendrick b. 1762 and Johanna b 1764. Possibly they may have had another daughter. Your Sarah's birth date fits in with this family. Maggie Redden
