    3. A Genealogy of the Warne Family in America by Rev George Warne Labaw of New York, Frank Allaben genealogical company, 1911, p 625 Miss J A Brown aving learned more in regard to the parentage of Susannah or Susanna Rezeau, and that she was NOT the daughter of Jacques Rezeau, who married March 10, 1705, Marie Contesse writes: Rene Rezeau and Anne Coursier, his wife, of St Martin of the Isle of Re, opposite La Rochelle, France, fled from his home in 1685 on account of the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes, planning to go to the Carolinas. In 1689 he was in New York City where he had a child baptized in the old French Church, St Esprit, on Pine Street. Later he settled on Staten Island where a French colony had located and where he met a settlement of people, alike natives of the Isle of Re. This is the first mention of the name Rousseau, Roseaux, Rezeau, as having come to America. Rene Rezeau d 1720. His will is dated February 18, 1719, and was probated October 3, 1720. Peter and Dorcas Rezeau had four children, three sons and one daughter. The eldest son, Peter Rezeau, died 1733, unmarried. He was named Peter Rezeau after his father and so would be Peter Rezeau the second. This son made a will which is on record in the Surrogate's office, and in this will he mentions his sister, "Susanna Rezeau." The second son's namewas Jacob Rezeau and that of the third was James Rezeau.... The above Susanna Rezeau married about 1735 or 1736 John Brown of Staten Island, New York. They were married on Staten Island, I do not know by whom. The late Rev Isaac VanArsdale Brown, the founder of Lawrenceville, New Jersey School was a grandson of John Brown and Susanna Rezeau Brown..... I. Peter Brown m Hannah Scoby or Scobey. 1. [NJMONMOU] Britton Bennett
    2. Cindy Kiefer: On the 1850 Census for Howell Township Benjamin Bennett and Britton Bennett live next door to each other. On the 1860 Census Britton Bennetts age is shown as 64 yrs which makes hisbirth date 1796 instead of 1800. (He was 50 in 1850). This fits in with Jeremiah's and Mary's other children. He was probably the youngest. Also on the 1860 Census (it was Wall Twp then) It shows Joseph Bennett age 67 living with Britton and Rebecca. He was probably his brother. Jeremiah had a son Joseph born in 1793. Maggie Redden

    1. [NJMONMOU] brown and rezeau
    2. marta burns
    3. A Genealogy of the Warne Family in America by Rev George Warne Labaw of New York, Frank Allaben genealogical company, 1911 John Brown, married 1735 or 1736, Susannah Rezeau. She was of Staten Island. They were probably married in St Andrew's Church at Richmond, Staten Island. Was she the daughter of Jaques Rezeau who March 10, 1705, married Marie Contesse in St Espirit Church (Old French Church) in Pine Street, New York City? The couple, according to Walter Brown of Thousand Island Park, New York, appear first to have settled at or near Pluckamin, New Jersey, but later went to Browntown, Middlesex County, New Jersey, where they owned the whole section, and the places was named after them. Eight out of nine of their sons were in the Revolutionary War, a record which their descendants are justly proud of. Children: Peter Brown; Mary (1) Brown; William Brown; James Brown; Jacob Brown; John Brown; Abraham Brown; Benjamin Brown; Mary (2) Brown; Joshua Brown; Daniel Brown; Susannah Brown. 1) Peter Brown of Middlesex County, New Jersey, born January 24, 1737, died September, 1798, married (first) licensed dated March 26, 1760, Hannah Scoby or Scobey, also of Middlesex County; married (second) Frances Sayres or Sayers, died November, 1824. The will of Peter Brown, dated August 14, 1797, proved October 9, 1798, is recorded in Trenton, Liber 38 of Wills, p 115, and mentions children: Whitehead Brown; Lewis Brown; Jacob Brown; Peter Brown; John Brown; Isaac Sayres Brown; Abraham Brown; Hannah Brown and wife, Franky. He does not have the middle letter P with any of his sons' names, which seems to be an addition made by the sons themselves probably to distinguish them from other Browns. Isaac seemst o have dropped the Sayrs and added P also to his name. The executors named in the will are Whitehead Brown, Jacob Brown and Peter Brown. Witnesses: James Brown, Joshua Brown, Levi Lott ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! Juno now offers FREE Internet Access! 2. Hi Cheryl, I still have not been able to find the info I have on Doughty REED. If you remember I had been looking at him because I was interested in his second wife Elizabeth BLAKE who first married Asa FOWLER. There was a very small 1812 pension file for benefits for Elizabeth wife of Asa FOWLER. I think Doughty REED'S deathdate was in there as well. Have you tried to see if Doughty also served in the War of 1812? Elizabeth died about 1852 and there are estate records and deeds for her all in Burlington County not Monmouth. I think I did see a listing once for Doughty's burial--sorry I am not more certain at this point. I am thinking it was at Jacobstown which is in Burlington County. Kathy Karn

    2. Cheryl
    3. My ancestors Doughty Reed/phebe Spragg married in Monmouth County, lived in 1830 New Hanover Township Burlington, and I've found mention of him in Stafford Twp. Is that Ocean? Anyway heres my problem...Someone has just given me birthdates/deathdates for them: Doughty Reed b. Feb 24 1783 d. dec 12, 1845 Phebe (Spragg) Reed b. Feb 9, 1780 d.Dec 13, 1838 They were given these dates by a relative but not the source...I'm guessing that it may have been a tombstone inscription..My question: What cemeteries in Monmouth County would be closest to these other areas? I havent located them in New Hanover,Burlington so they may be buried in a nearby Monmouth Cemetery.
