Judy wrote: >"Please note, in my local library this film is MISLABELED and is titled for NY Dutch records. " Judy, If that film has more than one item on it, and another item is NY Dutch records, that could be an explanation for the mislabling. I know in our center, films get labeled initially when they come in with the title of the item # that the person originally wanted. We are in the process of relabeling all of our permanent collection of films, and it is a lot of work. It is a mystery how some of them got title on the old label! We try to put on the title that we think will be of most interest to our patrons and a notation that there are other items on the film. Does your center have a card file or notebook with the titles and film #'s and a short description, that you can use to find the "indefinate" films? Most family history centers do. Many films have multiple items on them (I know of several with over 200, but 1 to 10 is more common) These items may be closely related if they are filmed at an Historical Society or something, but often they are completely unrelated, so the label can't contain all the information, nor can they always be in the drawer with the right locality. Hi All, For those who have access to a LDS Family History Center, the Mormons have filmed some of the records of the Freehold/Middletown Dutch Reformed Ch. Film # 1016879 contains the records from 1709 to 1851; baptisms and marriages only. Please note, in my local library this film is MISLABELED and is titled for NY Dutch records. Some previous reader scratched out the NY, replaced it with NJ, and I found it just browsing through drawers of film. I have no idea whether it is mislabeled for all copies of the film or whether someone just put this one roll in the wrong box. You can search their computer files for what's on a film. --Judy Cronk --Skier1@ix.netcom.com Digging for roots in the Garden State
As I wrote in my e-mail to Hermon, we have just returned form a long visit to Palestine, Isreal, etc. and am not quite ready to dig into the family files for a few days at least although I realy can't wait to resume.. Rappleyea and Remsen do appear in my files. I was born on the Schenck/Rappleyea/Thorne in Pleasant Valley near Holmdel, Monmouth, New Jersey, USA and my father and I "rescued" family documents before the family farm was sold. Hi Hermon, I've got some original documents in the "family trunk" relating to the Middletown/Holmdel "Dutch" Church. Since I'm just back from five weeks in the Middle East and trying to get "caught up", it's going to a while before I can send anything, but am keeping messages from you and others in front of me.. I am interested in the Dutch reformed settlers in Monmouth Co. because my ancestor Sylvanus Morris and his brother Samuel left Monmouth Co. for Newtown, Queens Co., NY about 1800. They both married descendants of the early Dutch settlers of the county. Sylvanus maried Jane Rapelye, and Samuel married Hester Remsen. I often wondered if the connection to these 2 woman may have come through Monmouth Co. families. Sylvanus and Samuel were Presbyterians who readily accepted the Reformed Church in the early 1800's.
Interesting names. I have Anne Martha JACKSON, b.29Dec1713, married abt 1734 to John CHADWICK. Anne was the daughter of Hugh JACKSON and Mary POTTER. Candy: I only put it on the net to provide two things 1) A time and place for Wm. Bennett 2) to see if there was a connection between Wm. Bennett and Joseph Nuding, perhaps employer/employee. In 1880, Nuding was in Shrewsbury. hi, Bill saw your post to the monmouth list about ROBBINS but also containing CLAYTON info. my KIRBYs in Upper Freehold had property which I think a Zebulon CLAYTON 'rented' from them [included in a property description of being in the tener of]. also a Jonathan CLAYTON [wf Rachel COOK] had dau Rebecca [b1816] who md Thomas KIRBY [b1818]. looking for more info on the CLAYTONs to place geographically as well as develop/understand co-lateral lines and community make-up of the time. any bells ringing here? I think we've corresponded before... like there are similar names among our ancestors' info but no 'direct hits' yet. thanks for any new leads! :) kirby in NC kirbz@netmcr.com
Greetings: Having just obtained a copy of naturalizations papers for my great-great grandfather, Joseph Nuding, I thought I would advise the Bennett family that WILLIAM H. BENNETT served as character witness for him on Nov. 6th, 1871, in Monmouth County Common Pleas Court. If there are any Bennett family researchers on line, I would be interested in learning about Wm. Bennett. Joseph Nuding was a cabinet and fine furniture maker from Germany. Frank Slocum ditto@tctc.com
I have posted in the past, but thought I would post again. I am looking for the parents of Rev. Warren Lincoln, born in Maine in 1810, married Eliza Hamlin in 1830, and died in Allentown, Monmouth, NJ, in April,1877. He was the first pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Allentown. I would appreciate any leads. Thank you. Judy
Hi, Frank, I checked a bit further and Wm. H. remained in Ocean Township for the 1880 census, but it appears Joseph Nuding may have been on wife #2 by then and in Shrewsbury Twp. The first names for wife and ages are different on the 1870 and 1880. The 1870 lists 4 children also. Do you have, or do you want, the info from the 1870? I checked the 1860 and Wm. H. was in Ocean Twp. then also. You might need to check NY for the 1860 census - didn't find Joseph anywhere in Monmouth County for that one. 1870 listed a 9 year old born in NY but a 13 year old born in NJ. If you can locate City Directories for the timeframe, it might give you an indication if they worked together or one for the other. Good luck and let me know if there is anything else I can check for you. -- Candy_B cbservices@monmouth.com Researching Bennett, Cooper, Vanderveer, Woolley & related families in NJ Researching O'Brien, Brown, Boyle, Cavanaugh, Noonan, Fitzgerald, Spellman, Messier (Macey), LaCroix (Cross), Blais (Blair), Durand, Simonneau, Chabbot (Jabbot, Jabaut), Boucher, Sharron and related families in NY, New England and Quebec
