Hi, I have a couple of long shots here, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. I have reason to believe that the Nixon family that Holmes Mat(t)hews was living with in 1880 (Federal Census) in Ocean Township may have been relatives. Does anyone have John M. Nixon (~1821-?) and Mary B. (~1822-?) in their family and know anything about Mary's family? I think it may have been Mat(t)hews. Could she have had a brother James H.? Or even Joseph? The other is in in Howell Township there is a Charles & Mary Mat(t)hews, Jack (John) & Catherine Mat(t)hews and a Joseph (James) and Sarah Mat(t)hews all living next door to each other. I suspect that Charles and Mary may be the parents of Jack (John) and Joseph (James). Would anyone be able to confirm or refute this? Exploring options from Dallas, Bob

FOUND ON: BROOKLYN UNION-ARGUS May 8, 1878 leffert lefferts estate BROOKLYN LIST ROOTSWEB LEFFERTS-BREVOORT ESTATE. A Decision of the Court of Appeals that must Vastly Benefit Brooklyn. All obstacles to the sale of the "North Farm," or Lefferts-Brevoort estate, lying between Bedford and Stuyvesant Avenues on one side, and Halsey and Putnam Avenues on the other, devised to Mrs. James Carson BREVOORT for her lifetime and to her issue in fee simple at her death by her father, the late Judge Leffert LEFFERTS, the first President of the Long Island Bank, having been removed by the recent decision in the partition suit of Mr. BREVOORT by the Court of Appeals, the magnificent property is now about to be sold. On the 15th of May next, at noon, Mr. J. COLE, auctioneer, will sell at the Commercial Exchange, No. 389 Fulton Street, 534 lots situated in one of the best sections of Brooklyn, in the neighborhood of Bedford Avenue. The surrounding property is all improved and the lots are immediately available for first class buildings. They remained in their present condition owing to the term of Judge LEFFERTS' will, but the partition suit having been finally settled and a clear title established for purchasers they become most valuable property. Seven lines of cars run through or close to them or connect them with the ferries. The decision of the Court of Appeals under which they are sold will prove of vast material benefit to Brooklyn, as this magnificent district will doubtless by built up immediately. The North Farm was originally purchased by Judge LEFFERTS' father for 1,282 pounds 10s from Cornelius VANDENHOEVEN.
Thank you to everyone who replied to my question about a mental hospital in Freehold. From all of you I have learned that it was the Marlboro State Hospital. My father worked there during its construction, installing the elevators. I had thought the facility was in Freehold, where he lived during the week. We lived in Camden, and he came home on weekends. That was in January 1936. Best wishes, Joan Lowrey La Jolla, CA
if it is anyone reading this post, or knows who is looking for them, plz contact me. i have several items ive seen online i collected-not remembering who needed them! thanks-hope it helps someone- linda
Can anyone tell me if there was an institution for the insane that was built in Freehold in 1936? Thank you, Joan Lowrey La Jolla, CA

Received this from another mailing list and thought some of you may be interested. -- Doris ============= I learned today that the Secretary of State of Illinois has placed online the death records from 1916 to 1950. They also have marriage records from the beginning to 1900 as well as land grant records and some other records. http://www.sos.state.il.us/departments/archives/databases.html To access the site try the URL I have listed above. This one may only take you to the death records or it may take you to the selection screen where you can check all of the records online.
