Hi All, I'm trying to find any information I can on my GGGrandfather, his name was David Teneyck(Also spelled TenEyck, Tenyke, Denike, DeKnight, Denyke). All I know is he was born in N.Y. abt. 1790 to 1800. He moved to N.J. at sometime and married a lady named Sarah. I have no maiden name or birth date for her except she was probably born abt. 1807. This is the only information I have on them and I got that from a census, it has her name as Sarah A. on the census. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Looking for any information on a Prosser family living in NJ 1790-1810. Margaret Prosser my ancestor, from NJ m. Caleb Schofield/Scofield in NYC in 1805. She records that she was from NJ. I do not know her parents names, but believe they lived in NJ but were probably from England. Caleb and Margaret seem to have moved between NYC, MD and NJ often until they moved abt. 1817-1819 to Hamilton Co., OH. Their first child was named William Prosser Scofield b. 1806 and he d. at 2 mos. old, so he may be buried in NJ. The next son also named William b. 1808 said he was b. in MD-he lived to maturity. Child 3:Richard b 1809 & 4: Cornelius 1811 NJ 5: George Washington Scofield seem to have been b. 1813 in NJ. 6: Eliza b NY 7: Mary Ann b. 1817 d. 1818 where? 8: Mary b. 1819 NY? 1820 this family is in the Hamilton Co., OH census... 9: Margaret b d y 1820 10:Margaret b 1822OH 11:Emeline b. 1827 m. Stoughton; 12: John b 1825 OH m. Ketcham. I have not one more shred of info on the Prossers from NJ. - I am stuck at the turn of the century... so, I would appreciate greatly any tid-bit! I tried to do a search and was willing to pay, but the check was sent back because they need a specific date. The deaths prior to 1866 for Manhattan are not indexed. They are in a ledger book format and you have to go to Chambers Street and look through the micro-filmed index. I was wondering if anyone would know if this has been copied and where it could be located, the clerk at the Archives did not know. What does one do if they cannot travel to NYC? I am looking for the daughter or any of her descendents of Louis Sherman whose name was Rita Sherman. She may have been married and I do not know her married name. At one time she owned a real estate agency in Monmouth Co. She was a cousin to my father and may no longer be living. I would llike to contact any of her descendents. Louis was a brother to my grandmother, Lillian Margaret Sherman Stacy who had a summer home in Shark River Hills from the 1940's to late 1950's. They were originally from Brooklyn, NY. This is all the information I have about Rita Sherman. Louis and Lillian's father was Samuel Sherman who emigrated from Hungary in the mid to late 1800s to Brooklyn, NY. Any help apppreciated. I would like to welcome those of you new to this site and tell you there are some really great folks who are willing to help just for the asking. I, myself do Volunteer research at Andersonville Civil War Prison in Andersonville Georgia. There are Any research I do is absolutely at NO cost and I am willing to do what I can. There are 462 prisoners on record from the state of New Jersey and almost 100 who died here, I thought I would send my offer. Here are my sources of research. There are 2 online databases to do lookups.....One by name...one by Company and Regiment. I also have a copy of the Dorence Atwater Death list which has the names and grave numbers of 12960 graves with only 460 marked as " UNKNOWN " This along with a CD I have which contains 34,000 names of the 45,000 who were imprisoned there which helps me find prisoner records because of misspellings of the names or alternate names. I visit the prison site every couple of weeks and have access to the onsite databases as well as the physical files. Please do not consider this spam as my research offer is FREE for the asking and will be posted on this county site only once.
