Joann, You are expecting a 21st century response when most cemetery associations are struggling to keep the grass mowed. Don't take my word for it, read the minutes from the State Board of Cemeteries, and the inability of the individual cemetery to pay $75.00 for annual fees. Many cemeteries I see mentioned on this board were abandoned by the churches who started them and if they have ONE kind soul to maintain the grounds and report vandalism they count themselves VERY lucky. I know this is an era of instant gratification and anything on demand, but you have walked into another world. "Punching in names, get lot number" is not practiced by any cemetery that I work with. Furthermore, with THOUSANDS of bodies marked and unmarked, it is difficult to track down an individual, without information. "I think it really is a shame that everyone has to profit in some way or another when a love one wants to find the history of their relatives." I try to remember every day that although this may be the third funeral for me this day, for the person I am talking to there is ONE and only ONE, their loved one's. You did not mention what that fee is, but I very much doubt ANYONE profits from a request such as yours. Did you check or ask your great Aunt if it might me written down somewhere, in a Bible perhaps? Kind regards, Christopher
