Nowadays, cemeteries are like, for lack of a better term, like a large filing cabinet, 2 grave plots here, 4 grave plots there, single plots over there, upright memorials here, flush memorials there, everything is in order. In the old days, organization happened by accident. If your ancestors were poor, like mine, then they may have buried their familiy members, wherever was cheaper. My own example was that my great-grandfather died in 1935, widowed, and out of 11 children, only one had a job. So he was buried at St. Peter's cemetery in the Italian's section in between(!) two plots, with no headstone to mark. So after many months of searching, I found the gravesite and double checked it, setting a marker, where it stands today. I asked his daughter, who is 97 now, "Why didn't anyone mark his grave then?" and she replied, "We just didn't know." So a date w! ould help tremendously. St. Mary's Church on Centre St. is a BEAUTIFUL building. Unfortunately, they have problems( the roof of the church collapsed after a storm, so the repairs will take another year) St Stephen's never had a cemetery, behind, beside or under the building. Now Alpine would be a well maintained cemetery to start (only wait until the snow and brutal cold retreats) They are at, Alpine Cemetery Association 703 Amboy Avenue Perth Amboy 732-442-0055 732-636-9156 after hours and weekends Sorry to ramble on and on, but I hope this helps.
