My great-grandparents moved there in 1931 from Chicago, but I won't get started with the St. Valentine's Day massacre story cause I am determined to rest today. Well, I'll try to.... They lived on Helmetta road, near St. James Church now and Red and Black (Lincoln Ave). They all worked like mules and were dirt poor(as we see today) yet they said they never knew how bad it was since everyone in town was in the same boat, so to speak. My cousin Bob owned his farm opposite the school for wayward boys, until he died aboout a year ago. But other than him, my family were strictly "minor league" in both money and property.
