I've been stuck here a while, and y'all have heard it already, but since ms. Pat insists... <G> Thomas1 KIRBY b1725 owned property in Upper Freehold, Monmouth, as early as 1765, on the Empty Box Brook & Assanpink Creek. he md an Elizabeth [nee unk] b1738 who moved her church membership to Upper Freehold Baptist Ch from Cranbury in 1769 [Thomas, in 1805]. he was a carpenter, did his Militia gig, was fined for refusing to serve [jury, constable], bought & sold land; nothing special. he and sons William1 and John are among those in Adelberg's Roster of Revolutionary Monmouth County. of the KIRBYs in the area, including those in and from Burlington co, I haven't been able to connect 'my' Thomas to any of them. I also have not established the relationship, if any, betw Thomas1 and Joseph/Eleanor CURBEY/KIRBY bur @ OYMH, nor Robert KIRBY b1765, nor to Kirby Mill. I've wondered if Thomas was transported here ca1750, for stealing another carpenter's saw in England [an account I've found]. it is also possible that he came from Long Island, and I'm beginning to look into that as well... but those are hypotheses, and haven't come from 'where the primary records lead me' [the prescribed direction of gen research!]. :) Thomas & Elizabeth are bur @ OYMH, as are ggson William, gdil Rachel GIBERSON KIRBY, gson Nathaniel & dau Sarah. probably other KIRBYs are there as well, as many stones are now unreadable and/or were previously unrecorded [i.e., in Stillwell]. I would like to find any primary records [there are 2 deeds unfound] that might establish 'Thomas Kirby, formerly of...' and/or any of the church records that might include Thomas1 & Elizabeth's membership or marriage [in Cranbury?] or the like. I'd be delighted to find more stories, other researchers' notes, 'scientific' or not; they help paint the scenery or back up stories I already have. associated surnames intertwined here include HOLMES, BRITTON, GASTON, MOUNT, CLAYTON; neighbors include VanSCHOICK, ELY, COX, LIMING... *all* with variant spellings, of course! kirby -- kirby in NC [email protected]
