Would someone be willing to check the information on a gravestone in the cemetery of Cranbury Presbyterian Church? I'm looking for the details on John R. Applegate. He died in 1840; I have a document in which the date is listed 3-31-1840, yet the 1840 census lists John R. Applegate as the head of a household. The census date was June, so how could he have been head of the household if he'd been dead for several months? Possible answer: a memoir apparently written by some descendant says he died on August 31, 1840, not March 31; I can see how a 3 could look like an 8. If he didn't die until August, that would explain his listing in the census for that year. If someone could look at this stone and try to decipher the numerals, I'd appreciate it.
