According to his 1911 death certificate, his parents were Charles Smith and Maria ____, from PA. The New Brunswick City Directory and the 1870 US-NJ Census shows a Mrs. Maria Smith in the household, which I assume was his widowed or divorced mother. She is not there in 1860 or 1880. I have not found either Charles Jr. or Emeline in 1850 in either PA or NJ. I have found in 1850 Census a Charles Somers Smith age 52 & spouse Maria Wilhelmina Paleske age 51, plus daughter & son-in-law in Lotus Ward of Philadelphia, but have no proof that they are the parents of my Charles. "Charles Smith,b1829 PA (Philadelphia Co.); parents may be Charles & Maria Smith. Children b NJ: Charles P., 1857; Lydia A. & Mary E., 1859; George F., 1865; Lavinia, 1868; Eva, 1871; William E., 1874". Y-DNA Kit 49819 Northeastern Smith DNA Project.
