    3. Joseph MORRIS was b. Jun 1792 NJ--perhaps New Brunswick, Middlesex Co., NJ. He d. 9 May 1868 Porter, Niagara Co., NY. One of his daughters stated that he was born in New Brunswick per the census. He was supposedly a drummer in the War of 1812; his wife, Maria(h) SHELLEY (1798 Essex or Sussex Co., NJ - 14 Aug 1889 Niagara Co., NY) applied for a widow's pension, but was denied. Unfortunately, she was not able to give any definite information as they were married 15 Nov 1814 (per the application) in Sussex Co., NJ, after he would have served. In the widow's pension application, it stated that he enlisted in New Brunswick, Middlesex Co., NJ in Capt. Wm. LOWE's Co. of the NJ Militia (the Bureau states there is no such Company) and was discharged at Sandy Hook, Monmouth Co., NJ in 1813. It was also mentioned that she "recollects he told of members of the Co. getting Watermelons." --Does anyone know why the watermelons would be significant? Other information I have suggests that his father was named Robert and he had siblings William, Robert and Hannah, all "long-lived", but I have not been able to substantiate any of this. Any help would be much appreciated! --------------------------------- Be a better Heartthrob. Get better relationship answers from someone who knows. Yahoo! Answers - Check it out.
