Hi Folks, I am interested in the Mersereau family residing in Middlesex County prior to the American Revolution. Andrew Mersereau, a native of New Jersey, fled from Middlesex to British lines where he joined the British army in the winter of 1775-76. His wife, Phebe, remained behind for 18 months to look after the farm and stock, before joining her husband. Andrew and Phebe joined the loyalist refugees at the evacuation of New York and went to New Brunswick, Canada where he died shortly after at Maugerville. His widow Phebe reported that Andrew had purchased his Middlesex property seven or eight years before the war from William Tennant. It was sold under confiscation to Samuel Potts. In his will, Andrew left his estate to Phebe Johnson, daughter of Abraham Johnson and Cornelius Wilson and Phebe Wilson, children of Robert Wilson, the brother-in-law of Andrew's wife. These three heirs were residing in Middlesex County in 1787. I am interested in information on the Mersereau family residing in Middlesex before or during the American Revolution. Dan
